Pregnant after a Loss

Camping at 32 weeks?

My in-laws are planning a camping trip this summer for the entire family.  I am concerned I will not be up to a lot of outdoors time in late June when I am 32 weeks pregnant.  The problem is I haven't told everyone that I am pregnant and am planning on waiting a while yet, since we lost our last baby due to neural tube defects.  I want to know more about my baby before getting everyone excited again (first grandchild for the family)

So those of you who are further along, would you feel up to camping at 32 weeks?  Or should I just keep making excuses to push the trip earlier/ or not go at all.

Re: Camping at 32 weeks?

  • I'm not a camper, but honestly, I would be miserable camping and pregnant, esp. in the 3rd tri.

  • I am having the same dilemah... my In-Laws go camping over memoral day weekend every year, I will be 35 weeks pregnant by then and everyone is all pressuring me to make my reservation.

But I really don't think its a good idea being 4 hours from my hospital and my DR when I am THAT close to having my Son.... insanity.

Everyone is all like "thats early, you will be fine" and blah blah blah...

  • ok, seriously, I'll be frank.  You are going to be big and very uncomfortable and peeing all the time, esp. you cruz.  Are you expected to try and sleep in a tent or sleeping bag?  Just say no!

People hate to have their plans changed.  DH was asked to play in a wedding when I was 38 weeks pg with DS.  MIL pitched a fit when I said he couldn't do it because he would be 2 hours away.  DS was born the day of the wedding!  Trust your gut on this one.

  • I know this is an annoying answer, but it's really hard to say. I felt good at 32 weeks and was still sleeping fine. Probably the biggest problem would be having to pee in the woods every half hour, haha. But lots of people have trouble sleeping and are kind of low energy at that stage. Would you be in a tent in the woods or just kind of in a nice cabin with a bed? Going hiking or just taking it easy?
  • Yes a tent.. on the ground... are you farking kidding me??

I am saying NO. We are going to go to my parents lake home instead (My DH and I have our own befroom there with a queen bed)... I know thats going to make his family mad but. A. Its only 40 minutes from my house B. It has a bathroom and shower and C. I don't have to sleep on the ground or the floor. Plus we have went the last two years in a row, my parents deserve to have us some of the time too.

  • My only issue would be ig it's hiking in. Then no, because it's uncomfortable and probably just plain not safe to be hauling stuff around. And even if you're not carrying things that's so tiring. If it's a drive-in site and you have some comfy pillows, you could be fine. But that's just me- I'm an outdoorsy person and like having a break from busy urban life :)

  • No tent for me.  They are planning on getting small cabins with beds, although there is not a bathroom in the cabin.  We would have to use the public restroom.

I would not be hiking, just taking it easy.  But I am very undecided if I will be up for it at all...   Plus it is about 4 hours away

I have a hard time saying no without a reason, but eventually they would understand (I hope)

  • DH and I are definitely outdoorsy camping type of people, but I would not go camping right now if I had to sleep on the floor inside a tent. ?If we were staying in cabins with nice beds and a bathroom very close by and we were just going to relax around the fire or lake (no long hikes) then I would go. ?But only because I love love love camping and hiking. ?If you're not all that big on it then I would say definitely don't go. ?You will be feeling a little uncomfortable by then.
  • I would do it. I love camping!

  • Oh but wait, sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag might not be too cool for your back. if there?s an air mattress though i say go for it!

  • I think if you are in a cabin with a bed you will be fine. I spent the night at the zoo in a tent when I was 33 weeks with DS. We had pads on the ground and while it wasn't easy getting up and down, I slept okay. Going away for a little trip just gives you something else to do to pass the time instead of thinking how much you haave to do and how long you have left.

  • I love camping, and I probably wouldn't do it.  The cabin part isn't so bad, but I wouldn't want to have to use the public bathroom, especially at night! (I get up at least once a night now, so in 10 weeks, it could be worse!)  Also, I wouldn't be comfortable being 4 hours away from the doc that close to the due date...  Maybe that can be your excuse?

  • I probably wouldnt do it. No way would I want to be stuck out in the middle of no where with the possibility of feeling miserable. Plus I dont think sleeping bags are suppose to accomodate pregnant bellies lol

  • I'd go- but I am still feeling good with this pregnancy.  I only felt good to about week 35 with DS- I flew to Michigan at 32 weeks with DS and was ok- felt good.

But, I really like to camp!  If you don't like to camp, maybe think twice about it.  You do start to slow down a little at the end.
