Do you think the name Henry is too popular?

Henry's been our boy name forever, it's a family name, blah blah blah.  I love the name, but I'm one of those crazy people who doesn't want my child to be 1 of the 5 ____s in the class and won't choose a name that's too popular. I was a Kelly who grew up in the 80s, so I have a reason for this fear.

Do you think Henry is too popular now (stupid Julia Roberts!)?  Do you think it's popularity will continue to climb?

ETA - I'm actually still a Kelly.  Smile

  • I love it!

I am a Jennifer and I still love the name! JR is almost identical to my DD name.

  • I LOVE the name Henry... and only know one little boy with that name. It's definitely been climbing in popularity, but I kinda doubt it'll ever hit top 10 status.

Jennifer!  Another great quintessential 80s name!  Both of our names are probably pretty rare for babies these days.
  • Henry is such a sweet name.  I don't think it'll ever be one of those names that's everywhere, though.

  • I don't think it's too popular. I can honestly say I have never met a Henry in my life and I work in a job where I meet tons of people. I really like the name, BTW. Very cute.
  • I only know one Henry IRL. Yes, it's getting popular, but if you like it, choose it.  It's not going to be the next Ethan or Aiden.
  • No. And I think Henry and Alice go well together. :)
  • I LOVE Henry. I have never met a Henry either. I really wanted it to be added to our boys list but DH was afraid people would call him Hank and he doesn't like that name (neither do I really)
  • The woman who taught my birthing class had a son named Henry.  That's the only Henry that I've heard of (that's young).  But I do know someone who is dead set on naming their first born Henry.

I really don't think it's that popular.  But of course, that could change.  I have a four year old niece named Sophia and her parents didn't think it would be popular.

  • I think Henry is becoming very popular, but I absolutely love it.
  • Henry's our top pick if we have a boy.  Neither DH nor I know any Henrys - so at least around here, it is uncommon.
  • I like Henry. It's classy and I don't know of any babies named that.
  • thanks for the feedback everyone!  DH is dead set on Henry, so I'd have to make a strong case to change it anyway (should we have a boy).
  • Henry and Alice are perfect together.  Love it!!!
  • No. It was only #75-ish last year.

We named DS after my late FIL and I absolutely love it.

  • I think it is on the rise.   It's my boy name and I know two other women who named her child Henry who are around my daughter's age.
