2U2 with PCOS??

Hi Ladies! I currently have a 6 month old and now have baby fever. It took me 6 months with no AF and a diagnosis of PCOS to get PG. Fortunately, I got PG on my first round of clomid. I'm curently on Nuvaring, but thinking of just stopping it and "whatever happens, happens" (DH and I are both fine with getting PG again). My OB says that it will happen a lot sooner than I think...so I'm just wondering how many of you got pg quickly the 2nd (or 3rd) time around and if you had to take meds again. TIA!! I'm just scared of waiting and waiting and waiting, then it taking years to get PG again.

Re: 2U2 with PCOS??

  • One of my GF's didn't plan to, but did.  She thought she had the flu and was PG.

  • I have mild PCOS.  We did IVF to get pg with dd.  I was ebf when I got my first pp period at 5.5 months.  We weren't using any form of bc because we knew the chances of me getting pg were really slim.  I had 2 periods and the 3rd month it was late.  Because I have PCOS I didn't think much of being late but when exhaustion hit me day after day I decided to test.  This BFP has been a great surprise for us after our 2 year stuggle to get pg with dd.

  • I have PCOS......we conceived DS #1 with IUI, Injects and Met.

I never went back on BCP b/c like you, I was afraid of never getting PG again. So, we decided to just see what would happen. We got PG completely on our own when DS#1 was 9 months old. Unfortunately, we lost that PG at 10.5 weeks :(

After my D&C, I went back on Met and followed the PCOS "diet." We were waiting for my AF to come to do a cycle of IUI and injects, but got a surprise BFP (I was on 1000mg of Met at the time....)

DS#2 was born in November :)

I think what's important is that you and DH know that you might get PG on your own and that you have to be ready. We never used any BC (not even condoms!) after DS#1 and it still took 9 months for us to get PG......but I've definitely heard of it happening sooner!

    GL!

  • I was on clomid and met to get pg with ds.  I got an IUD after I had him because we didn't want to get pg right away, even though we figured it wouldn't happen, we didn't want to chance it.

when ds was 7 months I got my first pp and got my iud out.  we decided that whatever happens, happens.  we would be okay and happy if we got pg.  so after a week or 2 we decided to actually start trying.

at 11 months I started weaning ds so I could go to re and start treatments again, just as I got down to 1 nursing session a day, I got pg on my own! :)

I had to stop ds' last nursing due to taking zofran so it was good that I was weaning him.  We didn't expect it to happen, but it finally did! :)

  • We did IVF to get pg with DS. After he was born, we never went back on bcp or used protection (I honestly never thought we'd ever get pg on our own). I went back on Met to regulate my cycles and got pg when DS was 5 months old. I miscarried that pregnancy.

After that, I stopped the Met because it made me feel terrible. I went back to my RE since the m/c was my third one and I wanted to get RPL testing done. My RE discovered that I had a hyperthyroid. I went to a regular endo who told me no treatments for 6 months. Lo and behold, we got pregnant totally on our own when DS was 9 months old. So it may happen quickly, or you may need medical intervention again. GL!!
It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.

  • Yeah - my OB freaked out when I told him I wasn't going back on BCP (was on it for 12 years...off for 2 years...had to do medicated - injectable - IUI to get pg).  It did not "just happen" for us the second time either (we tried for 2 years with DS).  We did another injectable cycle IUI and it worked on the first try, luckily.  We're due with #2 mid-June!

  • I was diagnosed with PCOS before we started trying to get pregnant. I was lucky when we did start trying though and got pregnant in the 2nd month of trying. I was taking metformin at that time which they told me could help me ovulate. We got pregnant right away the 2nd time and I was not taking any meds at all. Good Luck, I like the whatever happens happens approach.
  • 5 years to get pregnant with PCOS... months of clomid and letrozole... then tada 5 mo after tank... thought i had the flu. NOPE :) now i have an 8 yr old, a 18 mo old and an almost 4 mo old :)
  • I was still almost exclusively BFing (she was having a little solids, but not much) my DD when I got pregnant when she was 9 months. I had my period regularly from about 8 weeks PP and thought "no way are we going to get pregnant, took us 3.5 years to get pg with DD." I was very wrong. One time, like a week before Iikely O'd. I didn't even know until I was over 8 weeks and realized my period stopped coming regularly. I thought it was my body returning to its old PCOS ways. Nope, BFP.

  • We too had to have intervention to get pg with DS.  I BF DS until 5ish months.  Then waited for my cycles to come back - which were super irregular to begin with.  Went to the OB to get Progestrone to start cycle, nothing happened...apparently I was already PG.  It was a TOTAL surprise!  We didn't prevent ever - same logic as pps, felt no reason to, since I couldn't GET pg on my own before.
