Vent (NBR)- buying DH shoes...

My husband walks a LOT at work- we're talking several miles a day. He goes through shoes like you wouldn't believe. I can get them resoled at the cobbler for less than I can buy new ones, but the insides eventually wear thin to the point where he is really better off with new ones.

We buy him new shoes at least every 6 months. And they can't be cheap shoes or they won't even last 6 months...and they need to be slip resistant and waterproof. Oh yeah, and look good w/business clothes.

It's a necessary expense but it's soooo annoying!

Blah. I feel better =)

  • And really...because we have to spend money on his work wardrobe, shoes, dry cleaning, etc. and I don't work...I am just jealous that he gets new stuff so often! LOL.
  • Loading the player...
  • Same here...except getting DH to actually go shoe shopping with me is like pulling teeth.  I always have to buy 2 pairs and then return the one that doesn't fit.  Sigh.

  • This reminds me, most of Bun's next paycheck will go toward getting him new tennies. His are both talking. :(

    Yes! Exactly! lol

  • Have you tried Dr. Marten's? They wear amazingly and they are comfy and slip resistant. !$$$$$ but worth it.

No, I haven't. I think that's where his company gets the shoes they provide for the restaurant workers though. I'll ask him if he's ever tried them.

    Usually he buys Rockports.

He has a pair that he rarely wears because they look really clunky with his business attire.

  • Check out the dress slip ons. DH wears them with his suits and they are nice shoes not clunky.
  • SHOES FOR CREWS! If his company already uses them, they probably get a discount. I know we do! (DH and I are both in restaurants, him as a GM). They start around 30 bucks, and go up. They have sneakers, clogs, dress shoes, the works. All slip resistant.

My only suggestion is buy gel insoles from Walmart :) I swear, I can't rave these enough!

My dad uses these, too. He swears by them.

  • Good suggestions peeps!
  • Hmmmm I can't even think of a job that you walk several miles a day at. Wow! I am surprised that your husband doesn't get some sort of clothing allowance for work apparel...if that is a common thing on the job (walking several miles). I may be spoiled but that's what the military does! every year they deposit money in your 1st pay check to pay for any uniform items that need to be replaced.

He works for a theme park- and unfortunately because of the department he is in he's not in a centralized location. He is all.over. the park including the parking structure.

  • lol yeah my dad is a longshorman on the docks and is climbing and all this stuff all the time but his job pays for his shoes every 6 months he has so many pairs and some are brand new still
