Tutor Time or Small Wonders?

We are torn btwn these 2 places. DS is going to be starting DC in Feb. I like Tutor Time b/c they provide all meals/snacks + milk/juice AND wash the linens. But I don't know anyone who has a child that attends one, so I don't know good/bad things aboput the place.

Small Wonders was nice too, but didn't have a lot of the amenities like Tutor TIme.

Opinions?

Re: Tutor Time or Small Wonders?

  • I don't have any children as of yet but my SIL sends her son, who is 2 1/2, to the Tutor Time in Macomb Twp at 21 & Hayes and she loves it. Her son has been going there since he was an infant and she has a friend that also has her two daughters there. They both always have nothing but good things to say about the facility and the teachers there. Big Smile

  • I went to check out both and liked Small Wonders better(new facility, seemed cleaner etc.). The only thing I didn't like about Small Wonders is high turnaround rate of their caregivers. Also, their outside play area is right on the parking lot but they had bigger indoor play area and they take kids during summer for "water day" to play by that fountain in front of Warren Center so all of that kind of makes up for lack of tree, grass etc on the outside play area. When we were looking for a day care(summer 2008), Small Wonders had a meal program where you could pay $2 extra per day and they get daily food from some nearby Italian Restaurant(forgot the name). They showed us a menu for that month and they had different variety. Not sure if this is offered now, but if they haven't mentioned it, asked them. I remember that Small Wonders was cheaper then Tutor Time so that would make some room for food expense if you decide to do that.

We decided to go with Merry Mill, not sure if it's out of your way. I really like them, it is smaller place and they are really flexible with us. For example, my daughter was really sick in December and was out of day care for 2 weeks and we didn't have to pay anything where I remember Tutor Time said you would have to pay 1/2 rate for a sick day.

  • Thx. Small Wonders no longer offers the hot lunch program. Tutor Time was much more $, but offered me a 10% discount when I said we didn't choose them b/c of cost. So the TT cost is actually $6 cheaper and includes all food/drink which was a bonus for me.

TT also has a smaller class size currently and they do have a low turnover rate for the caregivers. So after a lot of thought, I think we are going with TT. I did like the idea of the fountain at the Civic Center. TT does has different poeple come in for music etc and when they get older they have the Tumble Bus.

I have a few friends that use Merry Mills and are very happy. It is just a little too far out of our way.
