Two Under 2

multiple C-sections

Forgot to ask my OB at my last visit but this will be my 2nd c-section. But would like to have another child in the future. Has anyone had more than 2 c-sections?? Is this advised against?? I don't know anyone that has had more than 2 kids via c-section so it got me thinking...

Re: multiple C-sections

  • i have a friend that has had 3 c-sections

  • My OB green lighted one more and then said we'd need to talk.

So he was fine with 3.

I think a lot of it depends on what your OB observes in there while doing your 2nd section so I'm sure the recommendations vary by individual.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

This is true, if you should have anymore, they would probably tell you at the time of the last c/s you had.  I am having my third c/s this March, and my doctors are okay with it.  And when I mentioned a possible 4th they didn't give me an immediate no or anything.

  • thanks for your replies and thats makes sense to get his opinion after he observes the 2nd section
  • I had 3 c-sections in 3 years. No issues, and my OB told me that she would be comfortable performing one more c-section on me if we choose to have a 4th child.

  • This really varies for each doctor and based on how your body does with pregnancy.  I've known of people who had 3 c sections without a problem.  Also, have you considered VBAC if you can have one?  It's not an option for everyone and not all doctors or hospitals will do it, but I delivered my second via VBAC and will try again if/when we have a third child.  There are a lot of misconceptions about VBAC out there, but it's statistically safer than a repeat c section.  For me the recovery was much easier and with a toddler at home I was glad to get out of the hospital very quickly.  Part of the reason I fought for one was that we want 3 children and I wanted to avoid the risks of 3 sections if at all possible.

  • I had 3 in 28 months with no complications.  I definitely want 6 kids and my OB is fine with 6 c/s's.  He was surprised at quickly I healed each time.  He did say that somewhere along the line he might say that there is too much scar tissue or other problems but that is pretty unlikely.
