? For those who have had to add rice cereal to bottle due to reflux.

So, due to LO's bad reflux the pedi. told us to add rice cereal to his bottles.  The first few feedings he ate his usual amount but since then he's been eating less. He usually eats 5oz but now eats about 3oz....did anyone's LO eat less once having rice cereal added to their bottle?

  • yep- and he still eats fewer ounces (when compared to other LO's his age)

Ok, thanks! I just wanted to make sure that was normal...the pedi said that I would most likely cause him to drop down an ounce but I wasn't expecting him to drop more than that!

  • Yep, our pedi is ok with it though.

  • have you tried enfamil AR or similac RS? LO has GERD and he's doing pretty well on the similac RS formula.

GL - reflux is tough, but soon it will be over!

Enfamil AR is so much easier than adding the rice yourself.  It's thick, so once you get above 4 oz. it is hard to mix.  I got the Prince Lionheart formula mixer from BRU and it works great.  FYI-the Munchkin one sucks!

We wanted to and thought the pedi would recc. one of the formulas that already had rice added into it but he didn't.  He said he doesn't like to switch formulas when LO seems to be doing well on it.  I don't see why it would matter.  Adding the rice is PITA!!  Do those formuals tend to constipate LO too like the rice cereal? DS got really constipated from adding rice cereal so the pedi told us to switch to oatmeal cereal.

  • With DS1, he went from 6 oz to 4 when we added cereal. It makes sense. The bottle is a lot thicker and making them full faster. I would not worry.
