NTR: Changes to Netflix

Has everyone heard this---

They are changing the rental policy- to not allow renting a 'new release' until 28 days after it is released

  • Well that kinda sucks, though usually we don't rent brand new releases anyway.

  • It is only Warner Brothers so far. And it doesn't really bother me. I mean, if there is a new movie that I want to see right away, I am going to see it in the theater or buy it. I always have to wait on the new releases anyway. Now it sounds like I will be able to watch the movies instantly anyway, which would be awesome!

  • We pretty much only stream our movies anyway, no biggie.
  • That kind of pisses me off!  We largely stream our movies now, but we were going to lower our cable package because we had Netflix.  Now...I don't know :(

  • What a bummer! I just learned how to stream movies too. So, it probably won't effect us too much.

We ditched our cable entirely and now use Netflix and Hulu. It is pretty sweet and I love having the extra money.

  • We stream ours from our XBox, but sometimes we will get a New Release if we are going to a friends or on a trip. We usually get them right away too, we request them ahead of time.
  • Um, that would suck for us. Considering we never have a babysitter we rarely ever go to the movies.  So I generally get a lot of new releases the day they come out.  Ugh! Annoying.

We stream some movies, but honestly I think their streaming selection isn't all that great.  I wish more current releases were out so I guess if this widens their selection that would be nice.

  • Doesn't impact me at all. If I want to watch a new movie that I didn't see in the theatre, I generally watch it on OnDemand, unless it's something that I am pretty sure I'm going to love and want to watch again, in which case I buy it.

It actually sounds like a pretty smart move on the part of Netflix, and a huge boon to their catalog.

    This.

It doesn't really bother me at all...we don't have any TV channels, so we watch certain shows online & then Netflix movies & stuff.  But I usually don't even know when new movies are coming out anyway (we add them to our queue when we happen upon a preview, and then it just automatically gets on the list when it comes out).  So I have no issue waiting a month.

  • meh.  if i want to see a movie that bad i see it in theaters.  otherwise, i can wait ::shrug::

i'm sure the reason is to drive up sales of the new releases, but i doubt it will work.
