So I am noticing a lot of "baby towel sets" in the stores. Does LO really need different towels? Can he/she not just use some of the smaller towels we have?
Yes, LO can use your towels, but the baby towels have a hood and are a bit thinner to help with getting in all the nooks and crannies of LO so that s/he gets dried off well enough.

You can definitely use your towels. I personally like the baby ones because they have the hood, which is nice to wrap DS's head in and dry off his hair with. I honestly did not buy a single towel or wash cloth - we got so many for gifts.
BTW, I sent you a PM the other day. I am in Charlotte too and had a question about your OB practice.
As pp's have said, they're not necessary, but nice. However, I've noticed everyone who has bought us a gift has included these. People really seem to like to buy them as a gift. I have no idea why. They should do some kind of adult version and it would probably rival the Snuggie in sales.
My mom hates the towels for babies...yes they are soft and cute but they get soaking wet and sometimes you can't get baby dry. Instead of buying any of those she makes a cute towel from ordinary ones. That way the people she gives them to still get a cute towel with a hood but they actually work. She takes a washcloth and towel in matching colors and sews it to the towel, then she will add some kind of patch or design to the hood. They are very cute and work a whole lot better then the cutsy ones.
Re: Separate towels for LO?
Just FYI - fabric softener makes them less absorbant!
hmm never knew that. but I havent had a problem, they are just for I and DH!
