I was wondering if anyone is planning on doing this or if you've started it already.
I'm kind of fascinated by the idea of DS being able to communicate before he's able to talk. I think it might lessen some frustration of trying to figure out what he wants (thought right now, its pretty easy to figure out).
If you're doing it or have done it, how old were they when you started them?
Re: Teaching LO's to sign?
Can anyone recommend a program or a book to use. I'm interested in starting but not sure where to begin.
Thanks!
I guess I come from the school of thought of "why rush things"? I don't find that it works until after the age of one, and as aspeech therapist, we use sign to bridge the frustration a child develops when he is unable to produce sounds. I have found you run the risk that the child becomes too dependent on using signs and does not use or develop verbal communication.
I do believe that sign language is abeautiful language for a child to learn eventually.
