We have the Summer Day night video monitor. Save yourself tons of hassle and get it. I am watching DD go down for a nap now. And I can tell if I need to go up or if she is okay. It has saved me so many times from waking her up if she was just going down or just waking up. Whatever you do, a video monitor is a must and well worth the money!
Summer night and day handheld was awesome and I just got the new digital one that scans the room for my toddler who like to get out of bed. Love them both. DEF get a video....

My Summer died after 2 year. I found MobiCam and you can add a 2nd camera all for cheaper than the Summer Infant. Never had static, very clear picture. I love it. You can also hook it up to the televisions and get live web feed so you can watch from your laptop or computer anywhere.

Another 2nd time mom saying spend the money and get a video...you will end up buying it later anyways. I don't know what I was thinking not getting one to begin with and my audio only one that I spent $45 on just sits in the closet. I also recommend the Summer digital one that pans and zooms. You can also add a second camera to it if you are planning on having another kid in the next few years. We had the Summer Handheld with DS and liked it as well but upgraded to the new digital one since #2 is on the way. Love it so far!!!
We have a color video monitor (forgot the brand but it's discontinued) and the screen is pretty small. It works well but I wouldn't bother with a color monitor. I would get a black and white one with a larger screen.

We have one that totally catered to my personal paranoia...Our house is a little older so the temps to keep the nursery at was always my biggest concern. The monitor we got has a GREAT microphone so you can even hear Alyssa's little glowing/musical seahorse through it and can hear Alyssa clear as day. Granted I'm not a second time mom but so far I LOVE this monitor...(Kiddopotamus monitor, we got it at Target. I hope the link works!
I used fisher price sounds n lights monitor and LOVED it. I still have DD's and will be reusing it for this baby. It has good range and is very clear, I could hear DD breathing and the reciever was clear across the room from her crib.
Re: 2nd time moms - monitor recs?
Ditto! Except we have the safety first version.
