I took a client out to lunch today. We were talking about life. He started to tell me about his 4 kids... and then he asked the question I was dreading.
Him: Do you have children?
Me: I have a daughter - but, she has passed.
Him: I am so sorry to hear that.
I was really proud of myself for keeping my cool. I didn't get emotional, I didn't get upset... I knew it was only a matter of time before someone were to ask me the children question. And I have to say... I did a lot better than I expected I would.
Re: I knew it was only time... and it happened today.

You should be really proud of yourself.
That is usually how I answer the question "do you have any other children" and rarely do people ask for more details
