To all part-time working moms....

What do you do, and how did you land a pt job?  I want this more than ever but can't find anything legit.  I've tried in my current company, but there's nothing available pt.  Annoying.

  • I'm susbtitute teaching.  It doesn't pay much, but it helps.  Hopefully, it will get my foot in the door for a full time job.
  • before i had dd i worked full time at an rv dealership and now i work 2 days a week.  the economy took a nose dive and it has worked out well to be part time.  Good luck in the job search.  I love working part time.  it feels good to get out of the house and do something productive.  when i get home i feel almost refreshed and a better mom
  • I've been doing the HR/financials for the same small company since graduating college (almost 10 years ago).  I knew I would have flexibility here, so I stayed even when I knew I could make more elsewhere.  Since having DD they have let me come back part-time (7:30-1:30 M-F) and they didn't even cut my salary.  But I also do some stuff at home if I need to.  I know my situation is rare and I got really lucky.
  • I am a server at a restaurant. I love my job, making extra cash & getting out of the house a few nights a week. I was lucky enough to be able to quit my full time job after I had Lilly. I used to work in a foreclosure dept. for a major mortgage lender. They had part time positions available but with the commute it wouldn't have been worth it.

  • I work nights and weekends as a pharmacy clerk.  I hardly make any money, but it's enough to make us a little more comfortable.  I'm also in training to be a pharmacy tech, which makes more money.  After I get certified, I'll probably start DS in daycare at least one day a week (because that will be in the budget after my income goes up).

It's pretty menial, but it gets me out of the house and like I said, I do make a little money.

  • I dropped to PT after I had my LO, in real estate.  I live in AZ, so the timing worked out perfectly with the market crash, for my company and for me. :)  Anyway, I work mornings, 8am -12noon.  My mom watches him 3 days a week, we have a nanny come to our house the other 2 days.  It works great...even in the beginning, I only had to pump once.  He still sleeps at least half the time I am at work, so I dont feel like I am missing anything.
  • I"m a secretary at a university. It's great and I have little to no responsibility (which I love).

  • I do escrow account reconciliation for a land title company.  I worked FT for them before I had DD.  When the housing market dropped, they were happy to let me work PT.  I was in the right place at the right time, I think.
  • I work for one of the big car insurance companies, processing claims. I started full time though, and eventually joined the part time dept.
