Little one is 16 weeks old, about 15 lbs, and 24 inches long. She is very strong and has supported her own head easily for quite a while, and stood (with balance help, obviously) for her Pedi at her 2 month appt. We keep meeting people who get all excited that she is the same size as their babies, and then look upset when they find out she's up to three months younger!!! Its weirding me out, since the looks on people's faces makes me internally upset. She's not a fat baby, just big (she was only 19.5 inches and 7lbs 6oz at birth, and she was 9 days overdue!) but I feel like people are judging her or their own babies! I adore my daughter, am SO proud of her and how she's developing, and want to show her off to the world... but then the mothers of the other babies look disappointed (for lack of a better word). How to I get my munchkin out playing with kids her age without worrying about how people are comparing their perfectly normal and cute babies with mine? Am I just reading too much into it?
Also, B has pretty big feet. Anyone find socks that stay on really well? She's gotten really good at scraping them all off!
Re: Anyone else with a big baby? People are upsetting me!
All babies are different, don't let the comments bother you. Just say something like "yep, she's strong and healthy and beautiful" and walk away when you get rude looks or comments.
As for the socks, in the baby section of walmart i bough a bag of baby no-show 6-12mo size socks. They are like the kind I wear at the gym. Not sure of the brand, possible fruit of the loom or hanes?
You may be reading into it too much. I am overly sensitive to my MIL's comments on how "big" DD is when she's always been in the 25-30th percentile for weight. I've come to realize especially from being here, babies all grow at different rates. You are responsible for helping you LO have a positive self image so you need to start now. Don't read into it and don't let it bother you as long as she is healthy that is what matters. If it bothers you, she will eventually pick up on that.
People come in different shapes and sizes, so do babies. Unless your pedi is saying your LO is too big or small then no need to worry.
Thanks guys. at her 2 month checkup she was all over the place. Head size around 75th percentile, height 95th and weight was sixty something. Pedi was impressed at her leg strength but wasn't at all concerned that she was trying to stand already (I am going to miss the wobbly stand, her little boogie dance is SO cute). I absolutely adore my daughter, she gets kissed and cuddled and played with and I think she's beyond perfect! I just don't like feeling like other people are judging her or unfairly comparing her to their kid. I guess its human nature, to want to fit in, and have their kids fit in....
Walmart socks? awesome. Next time I drive past I'll have to stop there, Boogaloo is outgrowing all her socks!
Don't let it worry you too much... people always tell me how small DD is... and when we were having soooo many BFing issues... it hurt.
People will ALWAYS have something to say, no matter what. Most often it's a conversation starter/or to move it along. And sometimes they are judging, but that the heck to THEY know. ; )
Hi. Don't worry about your baby being big. She's very tiny compared to Hannah (22lbs!). Just tell everyone that she's an "over acheiver".
As for the socks, I put those thick ones with a cuff on Hannah. They seem to stay on longer. With you living in California, they may be to warm for her.
"We keep meeting people who get all excited that she is the same size as their babies, and then look upset when they find out she's up to three months younger!!! "
Maybe you are reading to much into a 'look'. Has anybody actually said 'your baby is too big'.? Do not try to analyze a person's nonverbal reaction to your child. It is not fair to them and causes you anxiety.
"How to I get my munchkin out playing with kids her age without worrying about how people are comparing their perfectly normal and cute babies with mine? "
Simple, just stop worrying!
don't be silly
you don't have a siggy pic, but i'm certain that your baby is perfectly normal and cute! my DD was 25in and 17lbs 7oz at her 4month appt. she's is the 99th percentile for weight
to me, it's all in how you look at it. i look at it as 'look what my boobs can do!' (i ebf and struggled with it in the beginning). my feeding her has helped her as well as i do has helped her grow. whether you BF or FF doesn't matter, you should be proud that you are helping your LO to grow and not shrink, lol. for me, the only bad thing is that before she was born people got me a lot of summer clothes in 12m size that she could be wearing NOW (i.e. swimsuits, skirts and tanks). but i would rather have a healthy growing babe than have her fit into some cute clothes that were bought prematurely
as for socks, gap are the only ones that will stay on my DD's feet. they are expensive compared to other socks but worth it IMO.
I have the opposite problem, so I still feel for ya. I hate how people exclaim "she's so tiny!" when they see my nearly 6 month old who is around 12.5lbs right now. I always feel like they want an explanation (maybe they think I am starving her?) People should not judge a baby's size...they come in all sizes and some are tiny, some are big, for all sorts of reasons that have nothing to do with what the kid eats.
Also, Alannah is a master of getting out of socks (she also has long feet). The best ones I have found were a big 10-pack at Wal-Mart...I believe the brand was Faded Glory. They are cuffed and come in a rainbow of colors. Those ones have never escaped her feet, they are a great price, and they are made in America! Woo-hoo!
DS was 15 lbs, 24 inches at two months, two!
I know those looks well and still get them as DS is still a big boy. He is the same size as a 10m old and an 18m old in my mommy group. I think people who give looks are doing so because their child is smaller and it makes them feel like they are doing something wrong.
DS also has big feet (size 3 or 4 depending on the shoes) and we are putting him in 12m socks. Honestly socks suck because we haven't found any that we totally love. Children's Place socks seem semi decent and I do like a cheap set we got at Walmart.
Baby B at 16 weeks. This was taken New Years day. She's figured out how to scrunch up the playmat in front of her to pull the toys closer.
And unless you've seen the pinched lip look of a competitive parent, you won't know how obvious it is that the babies are being judged. Its hard to not be sensitive when I'm so proud of her, and people tell me "She CAN'T be only that age. MY children couldn't do that at that age" or "There is NO way she's not six months old. She's HUGE" or worse "OMG, my son is so TINY" (honestly I think I hate that more then the big comments!) My husband and I are both average to slender and average height (I'm 5'5" and 130, he's 5'9" and 128) So people don't expect a nice big healthy little girl from us, I suppose.
DS was 15 lb 7.1 oz when we were at the hospital on Sunday; the nurse just had to comment that he was bigger than her 5 month old. REALLY, nurse?!
But he's not fat ... just long and solid. And I think he's perfect.
Sounds normal sized to me!
My dd is almost 15lbs and 24.5" and she is only 12 weeks old! She is big and has the cutest chubby thighs but she is not a fat kid by any stretch of the imagination
I had some lady tell me the other day that breast milk must be fattening. b*tch! People just like to stick their nose in other people's business!

I mostly get shocked looks when I say my DS is 4.5 months old (well, nearly 5 months now?in 1 week). He was 17 lb 12 oz (90%) at his 4 month well baby visit. He wasn't tall (only in the 60th percentile) and he's really strong. He's wearing 6-9 month clothes and looks like he's 7 months old or so.
Try not to worry about others' opinions. Your LO is fine. And it all evens out eventually. My 4-1/2 year old nephew was HUGE but he's seemed to slim down over the last 6 months or so and doesn't look different than any other child his age.
And as for socks?Baby Gap. They're pricey but seem to stay on well.

LOL, my 2 month old is larger then that! I had a friend comment that her 5 month old is smaller then DD.
Just be proud that she's thriving and growing so well. It doesn't matter length/weight/big/small/anything... parents are just naturally going to compare. Some do it judgmentally, some like it's no big deal. But it's normal to compare. Just ignore comments that are negative
As far as socks, we've always had the best luck w/ Target crew socks. They stay on really well!
