GD mamas who work @ a school...

You guys know that you usually have to let your school nurse now any serious issues you may have (anxiety, diabetes, epilepsy etc.) just in case something happens and you need help the nurse has background. But do I have to let my nurse know about the GD because I am a generally private person and I don't want anyone asking a bunch of questions and checking up on me. I cant see a time in the next 8 weeks where I would need her to know this info. Anyone tell/ not tell their nurse about their GD?

Re: GD mamas who work @ a school...

  • I told the nurse and other staff, but just because they are good friends.  If you aren't comfortable with it, I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't see GD being an "emergency" type of situation.  It is mostly about prevention of the baby being too big.  One or two high or low readings will not need to be addressed by the nurse.

This.  Plus, you're not going to go into "sugar shock" from GD... at least I have never known anyone to have this as a GD-related issue, as opposed to a Type 1 diabetes issue.  If you don't want to tell her, don't.

  • If you end up going on insulin you may want to tell them then, in case you were to have a hypoglycemic episode.
  • I told the two coworkers I am close to and no one else.  I test discreetly.

  • I am not close at all to my school nurse (also a very private person), but I went in one day to ask her a BF question and it came up in the conversation.  She has actually become a really good resource for me as far as the GD stuff goes.  So I guess IMO I would tell her, you may be surprised at some of the information/help you can get from her.
