I just wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself. My due date was March 11th and on December 13th I started having severe back pains and began throwing up, once I realized my face was sweling I called my brother who is a paramedic and he came and took my blood pressure which was 230 over 124. This all started about 9:30 Sunday night I called the doctor and got to the hospital about 11:00 they told me that I had severe pre-e and when my labs came back they said that was the worst they had ever seen.
They then told me I would have Oliver in the next 24 hours! They gave me the two steroid shots for his lungs over the next 12 hours with some lovely magnesium (horrible stuff!!) He was already faced down so they tried to induce but my cervix would not open so they did a c section and I had him at 5:57 on Monday night. They told me when he came out he would not be breathing because he was only 27 weeks and 5 days but he was a fighter he even tried to cry when he was born which suprised my dr.
Oliver is in the NICU and will be for a while he has no problems or complications which I am grateful for just the regular preemie sturff. He is getting off the ventilator today and they are taking the tube out of his throat and taking the IV out of his arm, we are very happy for that!!
Well that is my story so far, and my life at the moment is running back and forth from the hospital because we live 45 minutes away from there but I spend as much time with Oliver as I can!
Re: New preemie mom
Welcome and congrats on your baby. It sounds like he is doing really well!
Let us know if you have any questions or just need to vent.
Congrats! I'm glad that Oliver sounds like he is doing well.
Welcome and congratulations! It really sounds like things are going well for Olicer right now! That is fantastic!
I'm yet another sudden and severe pre-e survivor. Madeline was born at exactly 28 weeks but was 1 lb 11 oz. Her NICU stay was fairly uneventful, though it certainly didn't feel that way at the time. She was in until 2 days before her due date. We were 45 min or so frfom our hospital too, so I can understand the addedd hassel of commute time to the NICU.
I hope that Oliver continues to be a great fighter and continues to amaze his doctors!
First of all she is a cutie!! Oliver was 1 pound 13 ounces so it sounds like our stories are one in the same. I really hope that Oliver doesn't have to stay until his due date because I may have to go back to work before that. I am really concerned about going back to work before he gets home I don't know if I can handle it emotionally and I that will mess up breastfeeding and I don't want him in daycare right after he comes home. I was hoping my disability would cover him being in the hospital but apparently not.
Thank you for the kind words!
