Do you love your ob/gyn or midwife? If so, come in!

I am in Bergen County and very early in my pregnancy (going into 6th week, if you count from when I had my last period).  I need to find an ob/gyn, although I would prefer one who has a midwife in the practice.

I have a major fear of doctors and have not had an exam in a VERY long time.  I desperately need someone with a very good bedside manner.

Any recommendations?  If so, would you mind telling me what insurance you have (or tell me if you know the dr. accepts BlueCross/BlueShield of NJ)?

TIA

  • Dr. Eric Bentolila in Ridgewood. He is awesome!I delivered out of Valley Hospital which I loved as well. He's just so laid back and kind and when there was a concern during my pregnancy he was so calm and reassuring. There is no midwife in the practice, it's just him but I don't think I would ever even consider going with anyone else. Loved him!

I'm pretty sure he accepts BCBS. Good luck!

  • Hi!

I just changed from my regular ob/gyn to a midwife group (Avalon midwives) at the beginning of my pregnancy.  I liked the one ob/gyn in the group, but not the others, and couldn't count on my dr. being on call when I went into labor. I had heard good things about Avalon from a friend of mine, and decided to try them.  I've had 2 appt's there so far, and they have been FABULOUS.  Spent about 2 hours with me at the 1st appt on a saturday, answered every question I had regardless of how ridiculous it was, caught something in my bloodwork, and called me at home on a sunday for me to go on a progesterone supplement.  They called me less than 3 hours after my NT ultrasound to make sure I knew the results were good.  I'm thrilled with the care I've gotten so far.

I'm not sure if you're willing to travel, but they have offices in West Caldwell and Morristown, and deliver out of Morristown Memorial.  I live in Middlesex county, about 40-45 min south of Morristown, and am traveling to them cuz they're great.  Oh, and I have the same insurance as you, so they take it. :-)

    Good luck!

  • The Center for Women's Health in Westwood is great. Dr. Dicker delivered my son, and I have also seen the midwife Cris who is really awesome. She has 4 kids of her own and is super easy to talk to. 201 3580505
  • Oh and I also have BCBS NJ
  • Dr. Melody Behnam out of Wyckoff & Ridgewood is great.  She's very laid back, sweet and I never feel like I'm visiting a doctor when I go, but rather a friend.  She delivers out of Valley too.
