Saturday night we got home from visitng family and I started having timeable contractions as soon as I sat down and relaxed, I thought I had been having small ones all day but was busy and didnt really pay attention. We spoke to the dr on call and he told me to go to the hospital, they checked and I was 4cm and having pretty strong contractions and so I got admitted at 2am. The contractions started getting a little irregular once I was in the room so they gave me nubain at 5am, so I could get some rest and hopefully the contractions would get stronger once I relaxed again. I slept until 7am, the nubain wore off but when I woke up the contractions had really slowed down and I hadnt progressed any more. The nurse came in and it seemed like they were going to send me home but we were still waiting for the doctor to arrive and see what he thought. Since I was scheduled for induction in 2 days and was still having some decent contractions the dr decided to have me stay and he broke my water at 8:30, I was still 4cm. He figured it woudl be a while so he didnt want me to have the epidural yet... instead told me to walk around the halls to try and get things moving, he was going to go to 10am mass and then come back and check me.... we went to the hallway but after like 15 min I could barely walk, the contractions were so strong and one on top of another, we went back to the room at which point I was crying from the pain and we called the nurse to come in because I needed pain meds. By the time the nurse got there I was in the bed screaming (this whole time assuming i was like 5cm) she asked if I felt like I had to push and i kept saying no I have to poo, apparently thats what it feels like when you have to push, she checked me and I was already 10 and had to start pushing... she started calling for the dr and more nurses... meanwhile I was screaming my head off trying to get out of the bed. she told me to push and I refused, kept telling her I needed pain meds and I couldnt do it without. She told me there was no way I would be able to get any medication before the baby came.... all of the sudden i felt this gush and henry had pretty much pushed himself half out, his head and shoulders were out without me pushing. At his point I was still just laying sideways on the bed, it hadnt even been set up, the nurses said we have a baby and the dr finally came in and they had me push one more time and he was out (I was still refusing). I couldnt believe it, no one could... then they got the bed set up and continued with the delivery of everything else. It was insane... they said his head was like a cork and so when they broke my water not much came out, the pressure from all the water pretty much shot him out like a geyser.
Re: My epidural free birth story & a picture
First, Henry is absolutely precious. Congratulations!
Second, what a birth story - OMG!
TTC since Jan 07. Dx with PCOS Jan 08
That's crazy Tamara!! I guess that wait was worth it for such a short delivery! So, now that you did one with and epi and one med-free, what will you choose to do the next time? My thought was if I got thru it once, I can do it again... and I did! (Just with a bit more pushing!!)
Good job Momma!
... every single day of forever.
Wow! What a story! I'm glad that it all went rather quickly for you though being that you were forced to do it med-free!
He is a cutie, congrats!
