Pregnant after a Loss

Not doing an NT scan.

They don't offer them for people who are low risk at the practice that I'm going to, which is fine, I guess.  I am 29 and don't fall into any other high risk categories.

The practice I went to w/ DD did them fairly routinely so I did do it with her... so it feels odd not to do one this time.  But, oh well, I guess...

Anyone else not getting one for similar reasons?

Re: Not doing an NT scan.

  • My practice doesn't do them for low risk. And I am definitely low risk. I guess at the time I was a bit nervous. But I did the quad screen..and the 20 week u/s came so quickly...I didn't dwell on it too long. It wasn't going to change their practice if I did.

  • I didn't do it with Sophia.... but I was thinking I'd do it this time as long as my insurance would cover.  They might not though since I'm only 26 and haven't had any pregnancy-related issues.
  • I didn't get one. My doctors office does not offer them if you are at low risk, I'm 29 as well and don't fall into any other high risk categories.
  • I didn't have one because I'm low risk as well.  My OB offered it, but I didn't want to do it.
  • When my midwife offered first-tri screening she gave me a pamphlet and it was all blood work screening. We opted out of all screening because I am so low-risk and it wouldn't make a difference anyways - so it saved us copay money.

  • I decided not to get one.  Results one way or the other wouldn't change anything I would do, and I felt like it could cause additional worry.

    The 20wk U/S covered it.  :)

  • I did with DD but did not with DS. We found out at the NT scan that we had lost the last baby, so there was no way I wanted to go through that stress again this time. There's so many false positives with that scan anyway, I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything.
  • I know this might sound horrible, but in CA all of the genetic screenings are done through the state, I guess so they can track statistics. I don't want my test results going through all of those steps to get to me, nor do I feel it is any business of the state department of health what my quad or NT scan results were. ::steps off soapbox::

  • When I asked about it I was told it really wasn't necessary because I am 28 and low risk. I am getting a blood test (AFP) done to screen for some things - mostly Down's I believe, which will be between 15-18 weeks. But I won't have an u/s with that.

  • I did it b/c insurance covered it 100%.  There's no way we would have paid out of pocket for it unless we were older or high risk for something.

  • Me!  My doctor didn't say anything about it to me at all... I think she feels having only 1 miscarriage is low risk and the fact that I am 25...

  • My Dr suggested I get an NT Scan even tho it wasn't covered by insurance. I knew as soon as I got pg I wanted one. I'm only 23 but my baby girl died of genetic abnormalities (trisomy 22) so It was important for me to get one.
