GD - Share your bedtime snack

Just wondering what everyone is eating for their bedtime snack.  I am sticking to the carb and protein guidelines that my nutritionist gave me but my fasting numbers are still really high and I have trace to small ketones.  I see my dr today so hopefully he will have some additional insight but I wanted to see what you guys are doing as well.

 Thanks!

Re: GD - Share your bedtime snack

  • Unfortunately that was the case with me too and led to insulin injections.  Since being on insulin, my morning numbers have been great.

That said, some gals do well with having a midnight snack when they get up in the middle of the night to potty.  I tried that, but it didn't work for me.

My before bed snack is usually two mini ice cream cones or sandwiches by Blue Bell.  They are 12-15 g/carb each.

If it's not that then it'll be a small apple with 2 tbpn peanut butter and 8 oz. of milk or 8 Nilla Wafers and 8 oz. milk.

Sometimes, in the middle of the night, if my heartburn is raging, I'll have an additional 8 oz. of milk and it doesn't seem to affect my number.

  • I'm on hospital BR of other reasons than GD.  My snack is very controlled. It consists of 8 oz non fat milk, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 4 wheat crackers (saltine size), 1 oz nuts (6 almonds, small handful of cashews).  So far my numbers fasting #s have been good.

  • No matter what I ate my fasting numbers were always high too - had to go on insulin.

But I normally have a little ice cream, or cheese & crackers.

  • I've been eating a Skinny Cow Ice cream Sandwich at bed, they're 30g carbs.
  • I found my magic snack to be an 8oz glass of milk and a mini whole wheat bagel with a small amount of cream cheese.
  • Chocolate ice cream.

I have perfect fasting numbers-- which is why I doubt the severity of my GD.  It has been ridiculously easy to control.
