It was an "upgrade" with our builder -- a nominal one (less than $300). I can't believe how many houses in our neighborhood don't have them. Literally every house I've ever been to has one, so it's just strange to see homes without.
Does your home have one? Maybe it's a dying trend and we're out of style with ours?
Re: NPR: do you have a storm door?
I think it depends on where you live but in WI everyone has one! Ours happens to be the oldest and the ugliest on the block. I hate it with a passion but somehow can't replace it!
This is the only pic I have of it on this computer but it has the glass "blinds" that you can open and close. It's truly horrible.

Not currently. At some random points in the past it had them, you can see where different sizes were installed (125year old house). We need them desperately but have to custom make them due to our narrow victorian doorways. We're biding time with insulation strips & draft snake things & stuff.
About half our neighborhood has them, half doesn't.
We do not have one and I can only think of one house in my neighborhood that does have one. I had one growing up and I love not having one and just going through the front door without another door.
We have one, and most homes in our neighborhood do. I can't imagine not having it, I like to leave the front door open to let more light in.
