Probably a dumb ?.. what kind of water to use for formula?

If I were to give N a bottle of formula, I shouldn't be using tap water right?  Can I use the water from my Brita pitcher?

I boil filtered water for DD.

  • I use my Brita but also use tap water on many an occasion.
  • I have town water so I put it threw the brita filter thing (pitcher) and pour it from there to the bottle.  They say you shouldn't use well water to feed your baby, but town water is fine.  I still filter it just incase.  I serve at room tempature.

This was the exact advice from my pedi.

I would also bold the second statement, but I can't look at pics at work!  I bet it's true, though!

  • Tap water is fine as long as it's safe for consumption and doesn't have too much flouride in it.    I boiled water for Natalie until she was just over 4 months old, after that they told me the water didn't need to be boiled, because she's sticking tons of other crap in her mouth anyway.......  Filtered water is good too:)
  •  I use tap water.
  • I used to buy distilled water but that got old quick and now I use tap water whenever she gets formula.

  • Our pedi told us that our city's water supply has a flouride concentration that is a bit high for babies. She said that too much flouride can cause white spots on teeth that haven't emerged yet.

So she told us to use distilled water.

  • your britta filter is most likely A-ok. I use Nursery Water because we have very hard water and I want DD to get the floride it provides.
  • We buy Nursery Water in the baby aisle. It's really cheap and then I don't worry about it quite as much. It is an extra expense though. I should note that LO only eats 5 5oz bottles a day. She isn't a 6-8 oz bottle feeder.

  • we were told by the doctor to use the city water right out of the tap.
  • we use water from ourr water cooler. We have well water so we don't drink it ourselves. I don't even give it to my dog usually - unless we are running out.
