Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

How long for HCG levels to go down?

Well, the miscarriage started on Sunday. It is worst than I expected. I figured it would be very much like a regular AF and I was pretty wrong...even with only being 4ish weeks. Cramps and bloating have been awful...much more clotting than I ever expected :(

I had my followup bloodwork down today. I will get the results tomorrow. RE says we can start new cycle with Prometrium and Clomid once HCG is down to 0 and it's been about a month.

I know trying again won't heal the pain we have been dealing with but I am ready to start again. About how long does it take for beta levels to drop? I know everyone's different but I just need this all to come to an end...

Re: How long for HCG levels to go down?

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Since your beta was 50 the last time you had it checked, my guess is that it should go down pretty quickly, but everyone is different.  Two weeks ago mine was 57 and last week it was 10, but I also had an ectopic and a methotrexate injection....so I'm not sure what difference that makes.

Hopefully they go down quickly for you!

  • I'm sorry for your loss. For me it took about 3 weeks to get down below 25. Hopefully your hCG will drop quickly.

  • Took 5 weeks for period to come.  Had awful cramps, heavy flow and lots of clots (completly opposite of periods prior to D&C).  I am starting cycle 4 since D&C and periods are all out of wack.  They have gotten shorter and I am ovulating days earlier.  My OB said it can take 6 months for my body to get back to normal.  I am so ready for it to be that way!
  • so sorry for your loss:(  My miscarriage started on Christmas and levels had been at about 4200 a few days before.  Three days after m/s started they were down to 900, then one week later they are below five (nurse couldn't tell me the exact number b/c my doctor hadn't reviewed them).  anyway, I will go back for another blood draw on Monday, but I am guessing about 2.5 weeks from start of m/c to my levels being at zero....
  • Oh no, I am so sorry to see you here. I remember you from GP...

The clotting is definitely difficult to experience. I am so sorry...

I think my betas took a while to come down because I didn't begin my first cycle for 54 days (I was also very stressed, but who isn't). I don't know if could be that I was 11 weeks and had more hormones in my system. I didn't check them, I just let nature take it's course.

I don't know if this helps in any way, but I just wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts. And when you are trying again, please come over to TTCAL. The girls there are amazing and have really helped me as MH and I have started tcc again.

    Thinking of you!

  • Sorry for your loss. :(  My levels went down from 3500 to 12 in 4 weeks.  Good luck!
  • My levels started at 637 on 12/16 when the miscarriage was discovered.  I was down to zero this past Monday (1/4).  I was 32 last Monday (12/28) after most of the bleeding stopped.
