She chokes on Puffs

and DH wont let me give her any... I keep saying she has to learn how to eat them and DH gets all pissed off when I try to let her feed herself. Please tell me its normal?? The other night she threw up from gagging on one!! I dont want to hold her back but other than holding her bottle and sippy cup she doesnt know how to feed herself. TIA

Re: She chokes on Puffs

  • Try soaking them in a little water first to soften them up, then split them in half with your fingernail.  Ben and Eli can't handle the whole ones yet, but do pretty well if they're already a little soggy and cut in half.
  • Loading the player...
  • It's the texture...you have to keep at it.  She might do it for a while.
  • I break the puffs in half.  Anytime I give my DD a full size puff, she chokes.
  • I tried breaking them in half, but I will def try soaking them in water first! Thanks
  • DD didn't do well with puffs at all.  I don't think they dissolve as fast as you'd think they would.  So I tried cheerios and she's had no problems with them at all.  They dissolve a lot faster IMO.
  • as long as she's making noise she's not choking, she's gagging. Gagging is a natural reflex not dangerous. Scary for parents but gagging sort of prevents the choking.
  • We had that problem at first and switched him to rice krispies. Much more in a box and more economical too. He's on brown puffed rice now and loves them.
