2nd Trimester

What is the worst comment you've ever made?

An earlier post of mine made me remember being a little drunk a few years back at a coed volleyball tournament and telling an opposing player (that looked 9 months pregnant) that she should be careful playing if she's expecting soon. Turns out she had her baby 2 months before that. Open mouth, insert foot. I should have known better, but I was young and naive. And had too much to drink. Share yours please to make me feel less like an azzhole.

Re: What is the worst comment you've ever made?

  • I made a drunken comment at a New Year's Eve party that it was the worst party I'd ever attended, while the hosts were within earshot!

  • A few weeks ago (and I totally should have known better), I told this woman who has the same due date as me that she looks great and that she is not even showing.  I am, and she is super skinny.  She doesn't look pregnant.  I bet that comment really annoyed her.
  • My doctors office has about 6 doctors, we rotate so we meet each one. Well i was about 16 weeks and had to see this asian doctor. Well,  he yelled at me for this and that.. Yelled at me for not scheduling a tour of the hospital. I mean this guy was RUDE! I asked him if i was gaining to much weight.. His reply was " I dont know, maybe you should eat more vegetables" i said "alright then.. maybe you should go eat some more wonton soup.." and walked out...  yeah i will NEVER see him again.

  • I told my BF that she looked huge while pregnant once after I hadn't seen her in a while.  I didn't mean that she was gigantic, just that her belly had grown so much since the last time I saw her...  Now I realize how many women take that comment to heart.

LOL! What a jerk. I would have done the same thing.

LMAO! Are you sure you weren't reinacting Knocked Up?

  • Sunday I was in a Banana Republic outlet with my sister and DH. They don't have any maternity clothes, but I was browsing anyway, in case I found something that would still fit. I pointed out one shirt on the rack and said to DH, "That looks like a maternity shirt. Too bad it's very ugly and expensive."

DH told me later that there was a woman standing right next to me holding that exact shirt, and that as soon as I said it, she looked straight at us, put the shirt back on the rack and left the store. Ooops! I totally didn't see her there. lol.

  • Years ago I was at a party with some people I had not seen since high school. I was pretty wasted and talking it up with this one girl. It suddenly dawned on me that she had a brother that went to school with us too. So I asked very loudly .."How's your brother" Then as soon as I said it I remembered that her brother had committed suicide years ago. I felt like such a douche. The look on her face was awful. I was at his funeral along with the rest of the school. There is really no back tracking from that.

I asked the girl who did my hair when she was due....well...turns out she had her baby in July of last year. I'm now reverting back to DH's "rule"...unless you physically see a baby coming out of someone you never make a comment assuming they are pregnant. I guess I figured as a fellow pg woman I would be able to tell the difference between baby bump and post baby weight....boy was I wrong.

I was *thisclose* to saying something to my hairstylist because she had a very round belly and looked pg.  But I held my tongue b/c I knew she had gotten out of a long-term relationship and wasn't sure if she was with someone new.  Thankfully I didn't say anything b/c she wasn't pg!  She really did look pg though so I can relate to this.

  • OH God. I have no specifics but I now cringe at every inteaction I've ever had with a pregnanant woman before being PG myself. I know I have touched on all the sore issues from belly touching to "you look huge" to 'you must be having twins" Sigh. I think my neverending morning sickness is my payback.
  • I have made the "you are huge" and twins comments... now I know better.

  • Several years ago I was at a wedding (enjoying their open bar), when seemingly out of nowhere, this pregnant chick pulls up her shirt for people to enjoy her belly(?). Anyhow, she had left her belly ring in, and I accidentally blurted out: "Oh wow! That looks like a scientific experiment gone horribly wrong!" Immediately I was like, "I take that one...back...."

Oops! (Who exposes their pregnant naked belly willy nilly though?)
