do you have a broiler in your oven, and a broiling pan? that's how i make steak during the winter. i usually rub it with olive oil and peppercorns and broil on high a couple minutes per side.

Sort of this...but you need to sear each side first. If you have WHOLE peppercorns, crush them with the side of a knife, then put them in a frying pan in some olive oil for a few minutes (like 5). They don't need to fry, just be heated up a bit. Salt the steaks, then rub them in the peppercorns, sear each side of the steak (2-3 min per side - and don't put them in the pan til the pan is HOT - and use a pan that you can put directly in the oven). Then put the pan in the oven on broil for another 3 minutes or so (depends on how thick the steaks are and how well-done you like them). Rare is an internal temp of 120, Med-Rare 130-135, Med 140. Serve and enjoy!

In the oven under the broiler or sear on the stovetop and finish in a very hot oven.
For thinner steaks, I saute up some peppers and onions and at the end I cook the steaks right in the pan on the stovetop.
Or, do you have an indoor grill? Like a george foreman or similar?
My DH just seasons and puts it in the oven.
For medium, set the oven at 350 and cook for 12-15 minutes.
For medium rare, set the oven at 300 and cook for 12-15 minutes.
For well done, set the oven at 400 and cook for 8-10ish minutes
These are just estimates and what works with our oven. Might not work with yours. DH flips the steaks half way through.
I would start marinating asap. Could use: garlic, salt, pepper, chopped parsley, oil, vinegar, red wine, and worstershire (sp?)?
?
Then cook on griddle! They turn out great that way. Ohh and saute onions on the side!
