How did you pick your LO's name?

Just out of curiousity.  Was it a family name?  Was the meaning really important?  Would you swear off a name if it was a name used by someone you knew or someone you didn't like?

Re: How did you pick your LO's name?

  • It was one of the few that DH and I actually agreed on.  Her middle name is my moms initials (Mae). I knew from the beginning her middle name would be Mae.

  • he's named after his daddy
  • His first is a family name, and his middle is a name that we chose by throwing around names of places we like, memories, etc. The middle took a while to choose. As for swearing off names-depends on how common they are.

  • Her first name (Ann) is the middle name of my favorite aunt on my dad's side. Her middle name (Campbell) was my grandfather's middle name on my mom's side--he passed away when I was 2.

Being a teacher-it is very hard to choose names b/c there are so many names that make me think of certain children/people that I just couldn't bare to use.

    I agree!

Her first name is about the only name we could come to an agreement on.  He liked Allison and I agreed to it as long as we could call her Allie.  Her middle name is the same as mine.

    Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in. & Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.

  • K's first name is DH's middle name and his mother's maiden name. Her middle name is my middle name (and my mother's, grandmother's and great-grandmother's.) So, I guess we went the family name route.

  • Ella was one of the only girl names we agreed on. Kathryn is my great grandmothers name. I wanted to put a family name in there somewhere.

My cousin named her little girl Ella Katherine!! It's a cute name!

  • Lyla was the only FN we could agree on and both love. Rose was a battle for DH. I was really not into it but it grew on me and he was persistent. So Lyla Rose it is and I love it!

He says if we have another girl some day her middle name will be Mabel. Ummmm....I think not!

  • well, the FN was the only one we could agree on and I'm not big on common names or unique ones.  I like classic.  The MN is my mother's MN and I've always liked it.
  • The FN we have picked for a boy is DH's grandfather's name.   The MN was a name DH really liked and they sounded good together.

The girl name (which we have completely changed our mind on) is just a name that we both really liked.  I'm like Katie, I like classic names.

  • We chose Aubrey because I went to college with a girl named Aubrey and I just always loved her name.  Kate was chosen because we needed a one syllable middle name since our last name is so long and well there weren't a ton of one syllable names I was crazy about and I thought Kate was a classic.

    I agree!

I second this! We also have a barber shop so a lot of boy names I would mention reminded him of someone with stinky hair or something...

The FN is a name that I fell in love with a while ago...the MN will be DH's first name...DH wants him to be a junior so this is our compromise.

  • DH and his dad both have the initials JDL...so we knew we wanted to keep that going.  We liked Jackson but liked the spelling Jaxon, and Daniel is DH's middle name.

Both names we have picked out are family names.  I've always known that Grace would be part of a girls name.  Its my grandmother's name, my mom's middle name and mine.

But I think this is a boy, anyway!Stick out tongue

  • Payton is named after Walter Payton (I'm sure when she's a teenager, she'll appreciate the fact she's named after a Chicago Bears RB).  Her middle names are Elizabeth and Michelle.  We always had Elizabeth in mind for a girl -- I have several very special Elizabeth's in my life and I always thought it was such a classic name.  Michelle is her birthmother's middle name.

Jacob's first name is the only boy name we could agree on -- and his middle name is after Tom Landry -- the coach of God's Football Team.  ;)

Payton and Landry were both agreed to during pre-marital counseling -- Jamie felt pretty strongly about them both!
