Maple Grove Hospital

For those of you that don't know, Maple Grove Hospital opened last week on Dec. 30th.  Was wondering if any of you personally know someone who has delivered at this hospital yet.  If so, how did they like their experience?  Thanks for your input!

Re: Maple Grove Hospital

  • I know they had a story on the news about one of the first births. I don't know anyone that has gone there yet, but live super close and was super excited when they opened. I took a tour there and it was beautiful inside and it is going to be an awesome hospital to have a baby at.

  • Thanks!  Yeah, I saw that on the news too but was hoping for some birth stories from there!  Maybe more will come...  We also took the tour there and absolutely loved it!  Makes me think I'll never want to leave after giving birth...
  • I'm no help since you're a lot further along but we'll be giving birth there.  I can't wait!  We haven't done our tour yet but it looks awesome!

  • Yeah I am not helpful either because I don't know anyone nor have I even taken the tour! I'm going to birthing classes the weekend of the 23rd through Oakdale OB/GYN and it will include a tour of the hospital, so I'm excited! I was still deciding between Maple Grove and the Robbinsdale North Memorial but I'm thinking Maple Grove will be nicer.

Is there anything in particular that you guys really liked about the hospital or the birthing suites?

  • We really liked the clean and new feel to everything!  The rooms are so big (both the labor rooms and the pp rooms) with really great bathrooms.  It just seems like they thought of everything when designing the rooms in the hospital from nursing closets (so nurses have all of their supplies in each room and don't waste time getting things and bringing them into the room) all of the way to cozy big sofa sleepers for dads.

They also provide cozy robes for mom to wear =) and each baby receives a complimentary Halo sleep sack to take home.  I'm excited to have that new experience!!!  Good Luck with everything!!!

  • Man do I wish it was open when I had DS.  It would have been so much closer for us.  We ended up going to Mercy in *** Rapids and it was a great experience, but you could tell it was an old hospital with pretty small rooms.

I am right there with you I wish I could had given birth at the new place

  • Just because it's new doesn't mean it's excellent.  It takes years for the staff to develop the teamwork that makes excellence and to know all the quirks of the system.  So don't chose a new place over an old just because it's pretty on the outside.  The inside may lack bones, experience, and knowledge.

If the computers go down, you need to know that they can do it without, etc.

Just my 2 cents as a nurse for 20 years.  Everytime we get any new piece of equipment or the like I am a little learly until all the quirks are worked out.  It's also nice to just look at a coworker and know that we all know our roles in an emergency.

I'm sure this hospital will be excellent as most MN hospitals are and it's from a great system.  Just not from the start.
