Babies: 0 - 3 Months

2 Month Olds NOT STTN?

My 2 month old still wakes up every 2-4 hours during the night....usually 2, sometimes 3 and rarely 4.  It seems like every post from moms of 2 month olds is filled w/ babies sleeping 10 hours or something.  I can't be the only one!!!  Where are all you moms of 2 month olds who are still waking up all the time like newborns?

Re: 2 Month Olds NOT STTN?

  • I get about one four hour stretch and then 2-3 hours after. I did get some 5-6 hour stretches but hasn't been consistent. I hope we both get sleep soon!

  • right here!!! :)  we are in the same boat!  i was under the impression that infants don't start sttn until 3-6 months -i was astounded by those moms who said their lo are sleeping all night long!!!  i am definitely doing something wrong!

  • She's not quite 2 months old, but DS didn't STTN until he was about 4 months, and I don't particularly expect DD to anytime soon either. Some people are lucky, but developmentally, babies don't typically STTN this early on. She has started sleeping a little longer lately- 4 to 5 hours, instead of 2 to 3. But this isn't what I'd consider STTN by any means!
  • im with you too... shes still waking up 2 times every night. I just want a good nights sleep!

  • my older son didnt sleep through the night until he was 7 months! dont worry about it and remember that every baby is different!
  • Please! She is up at 2, 4 and 6. I go back to work next week and was really hoping we would have longer times of sleep by then Indifferent
  • My son didn't STTN at 2 months. Now at 3 months, he has had one night where he slept 7 hours.

I think it is very unusual at this age for babies to STTN.

  • You are not alone! My baby wakes up every 3 hours or so to be fed. He is a preemie and weighs about 13 lbs, I think his tummy is still too small to "tank up" before bedtime because he won't take more than 4oz every 3 hrs. I read from moms with LOs who STTN that their babies eat much much more than that, so they reach their daily intake before going to bed, so they don't wake up hungry anymore.

This is exactly our situation too. Its like he got my hopes up with a 5 1/2 hour stretch one time...then is up every two hours the next night. Oh well.

  • Not happening anytime soon in our house.  He wakes every 3-4 hours or so.  I get jealous when I read those posts as well.
  • Henry didn't STTN until around 10 weeks.

  • Ari doesn't STTN and I don't expect him to.  He's done it twice - both after intense cluster feedings (as in, nursing for 4-5 hours straight).  I don't mind it, though, when he wakes up.  We bedshare, so it's just a matter of getting him latched back on and I can go back to sleep!
  • You're not alone!  I consider it a good night if I get 3 hour stretches.  He's been on this 3, 2, 1, 1, 1 kick lately.  Which makes for one crazy mama!

Both of you described DD exactly. Once a week she'll sleep 5-5 1/2 hours. But usually when she goes to bed at night she sleeps 4 hours and then is up every 2-3 hours. I feel like screaming every time anyone says anything about STTN

  • Sometimes babies STTN for a short spell (a few weeks to maybe a couple of months) only to start frequent night wakings again.  Babies typically don't consistently STTN till they're a bit older.

  • DD is going about every 4 hours at night to nurse instead of 3, so usually once I feed her at 11pm she`s good until 3-4am but then is up again by 7-8am.

Before her scedule was more like 1am 4am and then 7am, so lost that 1am feeding

  • My DD has a 4 or 5 hour stretch and then every 3 hours or so after that.  Sigh.

THIS! everytime we get 4+ hours I pray that the next day it will continue and that it will grow in length.
