Homeowners - how pissed are you that you bought before the crash?

I get so "motherschitballs" every single time I see what houses I could have bought for the same or less.  And then I have to remind myself that I love my house and have had a great time living in it for the past few years.

BUT DAMN.

  • I'm walking away from this post because it reminds me of how pissed I am.

We purchased literally months before the crash.

    Ughhhhhhhhhhhh

  • We got our house at a good price but I'm just pissed I missed the tax credit by 6 months.
  • Our first house, which we rent out, would still sell for the same we bought it for. We didn't have a huge crash in that town. We just bought another house that sold for 225k more 2 years ago. I feel bad for the previous owners lol.
  • You're gonna hate me...but we are on the flipside.

We waiting and we got an awesome deal and way more house than we would have been able to afford a few years ago.

  • Well we bought 5 years ago at the peak market. ?Our house is worth half our mortgage. ?IT'S A BIG AMOUNT : (
  • I was very...especially when we had to sell our condo last winter because I couldn't live in it while pregnant/on bedrest (3rd floor walkup) and we lost a TON...but then we bought a single family house a couple months ago and more than made up for the loss so I'm not so bitter anymore.

  • I bought at a perfect time during the crash but I am super pissed they are giving away free money for new home buyers that I JUST missed out on!

  • i can't even tell you.  especially since we have to put ours on the market.  and at 2/3 what i paid for it 5 years ago.

  • yes...furious...HULK MAD!  HULK SMASH!
  • yes, I'm peeved!  We're selling this spring and we will have to sell for less than we bought it. If we're lucky, we may not have to pay to sell it.

  • I'm actually really happy we did. With DH having been a student for part of the year we bought our house I don't know that we would have been approved for a loan during the crash. Also, we bought our house for waaaay less than what we could afford at the time, which really saved our butts when I got sick and on BR while PG. We actually pay less than most renters for our mortgage so buying before the crash has been a huge blessing for us.

Haha, no hate.  I don't begrudge the people who landed great deals.  I didn't buy at peak market like poor MamaM.  It was three years ago, so it was still a pretty good deal.  And I doubt we would have qualified for the loan we got had we waited until now because we're technically subprime.

But it wasn't no 4br/3bath/5acres foreclosure deal.  Dang.

  • We bought our house 5 years ago. Yeah. But I dont dwell on it.
  • We bought our house about a month before the boom in our province really took off.

  • We bought in March of 2008 just as prices were starting to come down.  Yes I'm sad that we owe more than it's worth, but it was the right house for us and still will be for many years to come.  We didn't want to wait longer and miss out on this house.

  • Sooo pissed off. Not to mention my condo fees have gone up almost $200 since moving in...

  • I'm super pissed because we are completely upside down on a one bedroom condo and now we have DD.  I thought we would be able to stay in the condo with DD until the market picked up but she is a really light sleeper and the bathroom in our room doesn't have a door just the area where the toilet and shower are do so we have to get ready in the dark in the morning so we don't wake DD.  We're selling it right now.

  • We sold our first home, which we were renting out on an ARM that had adjusted for lack of another option, literally one month before the crash for $20,000 more than we paid for it. We had already moved to another state the year before and bought another house. If we hadn't sold when we did, we would have been ruined financially. So I try not to complain much either. But yeah, when I think about trying to sell this house, I want to cry.
    I HAVE CHILDREN.
  • I get pretty miffed!  It really sucks!  We could be living better/saving more if we had bought after the crash... I hate thinking about it!

  • Totally! DH is military and we have to move next month. We are trying to figure out how much we can afford to bring to the table if we can even get an offer. It doesn't help that our realtor is moving at a snail's pace. I'm ready to look for a new one!
  • I must be lucky, but we bough tour house in 2003 and even after the crash its still worth about 100,000 more then when we bought it.

Us too.  And I hate our house-we could've done so much better if we waited.  To top it off they did reassessments about a year after we bought and our house was assessed $10000 less than we paid.  Awesome.

  • OH YES.  Not only that, but we're now looking to sell and we won't get anywhere near what we expected we'd be able to by now.  It's quite the pisser, indeed.
