Pregnant after a Loss

Will I know it if I have a BH?

I don't think I have had any sort of BH contractions at all.  I'm just wondering if I will know it if & when it happens.

Re: Will I know it if I have a BH?

  • I didn't have any with DD1, so when I started getting weird pains with this one I asked my Dr. Turns out the pressure I was feeling was BH ctx! Mine start at the bottom of my belly and "roll" upwards, my belly gets really tight and feels very heavy, then everything relaxes. If you get anything that feels like any part of that, I would assume it's BH. They aren't supposed to be painful, just uncomfortable.

  • I just asked my friend. Apparently I've been having them for a while, but didn't really think about it. I just know because my uterus tightens. It doesn't really bother me at all.

  • You actually begin to have BH around 6 weeks, but most people don't feel them until around 20 weeks. They are not bad - just your uterus toning and practicing contractions. They're only a concern when you have so many that they could possibly lead to preterm labor, usually in the latter half of second tri or beginning of third. Some people never feel them but most people will feel a painless tightening sensation sometime after 20 weeks.
  • You may not know....I have had a few painful ones, and then today I realized that I was getting painless ones, too...I just haven't noticed them until just now, but every once in awhile I'll touch my belly and it is sooooo tight.  Then, a minute later it has softened right back up.  I don't feel them at all!

(My cousin didn't even feel her first labor contractions....they decided to go to the hospital b/c her belly was completely changing shape on a regular basis!  When they went in, she was already dilating, even though she hadn't felt the contractions yet!)
