Poll: Do you clean as much if your DH is home??

Do you keep to your normal routine or do you clean less/more??

I clean everyday. But if my DH is home (some Saturdays/every Sunday), I do not clean as much if at all. I like to enjoy our family time together and if I'm being honest, I feel if he gets days "off", then I should too.

Last week he was home (and half of the week prior to that) and I hardly cleaned at all. I feel bad about that. But I am paying for it today.I am trying to get all of the Christmas decor put away AND clean the house. No fun.

Just wondered if I am in the minority...

  • I'm the same way.  Luckily for me, DH knew he was in the dog house yesterday, so he did a little cleaning.  Even that little bit helped a lot with my backlog! :)

  • I'm the exact same way.  DH was home most of the last two weeks, and I hardly did anything around the house.  I have been exhausted and a little sick from pregnancy, so that's part of it, but when he's here relaxing, I want to also!  :-)

  • DH works long hours, so when he is home, I just want to be able to catch up with him. We snuggle and watch movies, or play on our computers next to each other after he gets home at night (I keep him updated on The Bump, he tells me how his campaigns are going on his games, lol). And on days off, we watch movies together while DS naps, and try to take DS out to do something fun.
  • Same here but for different reasoning:

#1 - weeends are our family time, and

#2 - DH is an enormous slob and it's impossible to clean as fast as he makes messes.  It's pointless.

  • It depends. If he's doing nothing, I don't clean because I kind of feel like hired help.

On the other hand, if he's playing with DD, I clean way more than usual because it's so nice to get to clean uninterrupted for a while.

  • weekends are family time. we don't clean on weekends.

Now the past two weeks DH was home on vacation- i cleaned twice as much- got a lot organized etc. Only because he could watch her and i got six times as much done. --

  • The same. I am a super anal neat freak, though. I actually enjoy/find most cleaning soothing, and absolutely cannot relax unless the house is very clean.

Actually, last week when DH was home I did more, because I took the time to reorganize the pantry, kitchen cupboards, and laundry room. I can tackle bigger projects when he is there to help with DS.

  • I tend to do more on his days off right now because he can carry things around for me that are getting too awkward/heavy at this point.

When the baby gets here I have a feeling I'll do a lot less on his days off because that will be our only real family time because he works long and weird hours.

I am the same way and it drives my husband crazy!

  • I do probably 50% of the cleaning during the day when he's gone. The other is while he's home, with him doing probably half there.

We have a small house, too much stuff, and I have two needy toddlers to myself all day. He helps with "big clean" on the weekend so that it's not so bad during the week on me.

  • No, I don't.  I'm not sure why I don't... just don't.

I love him, love him, love him... but...I AM SO GLAD HE IS GOING BACK TO WORK TOMORROW!!!

    Ahhhhhhh...

  • Sometimes I clean more, sometimes I clean less.
  • I am the same way. I don't clean on the weekend other than daily things like dishes. We were gone the whole week of Christmas and then DH was home 1/2 the week last week and I didn't clean at all. I payed for it today too but I was a cleaning maniac today because I can only handle the mess/dirt for so long.

Not related to OP but just realized our DSs are the same age!!!

  • It's about the same.  When he is home the little ones are usually entertained enough where I can get something done in a block of time versus spreading it out over 5 minutes here and there (that works for folding towels, balancing the checkbook, not so much).

DH is good with getting the kids to clean up their toys and right now he is putting away his laundry (which is awesome because even after 8 years together, I *still* can't put things where they belong I guess!)
