Trouble TTC

PCOS...tell me what you know please!

Hi Ladies! I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS.  I am still unsure of what it means for me because I have had two successful pregnancies but am having a hard time getting preggo this time.  I have read up online and talk to my NP a bit but I am disappointed because I was supposed to see my DR that day and she had a delivery.  Now I have to wait awhile until I will see her.  Thanks for your ideas.

  • Hi there.  Sorry for your diagnosis.  I'm embarrassed to say that I do not know very much about PCOS even though I have been diagnosed with it myself.  For me, it means than I do not ovulate on my own.  My ovaries are also very cystic.  I do not have any of the other symptoms that are common with PCOS though.  There are a lot of ladies around here that could be of help to you though.  Good luck in your journey.  Hope you get preggo soon.

  • I read A Patients Guide to PCOS... very informative. You can get a used copy from amazon for like $10. I also like the soulcysters website.

  • I was dx'ed with PCOS in 2000. There is a great book titled PCOS and your fertility and it goes through the symptoms of PCOS and how it effects fertility. PCOS is not a disorder of reproduction but an endecrine(sp?) disorder. As explained to me by my RE is that the insulin that my body produces is not good quality so it makes extra to compensate. Most of the systems are not effected by the extra insulin but the overies are effected greatly. The overies then become over run with partially mature follicules(cysts) and that is what they call the "string of  pearls". The doctors reccomend losing weight as this helps the body with the production of better insulin. If you have any other questions let me know... I have been dealing with this for a long time.
