I was curious about your experience. I know with it being a teaching hospital there are much fewer "freebies" as they do not affiliate with promotions.
Was your experience good, bad, what did you love/hate??? Do they offer photography in the hospital?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Has anyone delivered at OHSU?
I did. I had a good experience overall. My dr is with Family Medicine and I really like her. The only downside was that I only saw her for the last hour or so. The rest of the time I'd only see nurses or whichever dr. was doing the rounds, so I saw many different people.
I don't think they offer photography. Are you looking for birth photography? I would look into hiring a professional photographer for doing that. I've seen some pretty good birth photography sessions from friend photographers (though they do not live in PDX). I don't really know who to recommend in town.

I delivered there last June and had a wonderful experience. I had fabulous nurses in L&D and the mom&baby unit. The OB on-call when I arrived was really great. (I see Family Medicine, so I didn't know any of the OBs, but the one on-call checked me when I first arrived because my docs weren't there yet). All the staff read our birth plan first and were very respectful of it. We didn't ask anything unusual, but it was still apparent that they cared about our wishes. They were very comfortable with me having an intervention-free birth and never once pushed pain killers or monitoring, etc. And when I decided after 20 hours of back labor that I DID want and epi and I wanted it NOW, the very sweet anesthesiologist was there in a second, very understanding of the pain I was in and patient to work between my very close and long contractions. They let me labor in whatever position I wanted (I was in the tub for most of it - not a waterbirth tub, but a standard one) until the epi and let me push in various positions. Our labor nurse even ran down to the cafeteria and got us food after the birth (no charge), which was great because we were starving! I was impressed with the care in the recovery unit, too. LCs stopped in, the nurses were great with our baby, and if they had extra meals they always offered them to DH for free. They made sure that all three of us (me, baby, and DH) were comfortable. I don't know about photography, but we had our own camera in the delivery room and recovery room. I don't have anything to compare the "freebies" with, but we left with quite a bit of stuff: diapers, pads, cold packs, soothies, some first aid stuff, and a gift box with candy and tidbits for me.
My SIL delivered there as well and had an equally good experience. But I will say that I know one other mom who delivered there who had a very different experience. She was repeatedly checked vaginally without any tenderness or even much warning, was spoken too harshly, etc. I was shocked when she was telling me about her time there. It was like a completely different hospital. While I'm planning on returning to OHSU because I was happy there, I feel that I should tell you the bad I know as well as the good.
ETA: I should also say that the other mom was, through a series of events, left without an OB in the last month of her pregnancy and no real time to establish a relationship with another one. Therefore, while she had received regular prenatal care, she essentially had shown up at the hospital with no one for the hospital to call in. So she received her care from rotating on-call residents. She did say that she had a good labor nurse, at least. Not sure why her hospital stay in Mom & Baby was so bad, though.
Thanks so much ladies! I see my OB at OHSU and have had the chance to see 3 others as well, so hopefully I will know the OB that's available... crossing my fingers it will be my OB!
I appreciate the candid reviews!

I likely will not deliver there in the future. I had a really bad experience with many of the nurses. When my epi finally took, my bp dropped dangerously low and my machines kept going off. The nurses never came in to turn them off. I had to page them every 5 minutes to turn my machines off. My mom and MIL came in to check on me and got yelled at bc I was supposed to be sleeping. How can I be sleeping with my machines going off all the freaking time?!
I had one nurse who was flat out RUDE and hurtful when it came to BF my son. She told me she had made another patient cry. DH hated her.
I had my c/s on Wednesday. I was supposed to get a shower every morning with the help of a nurse. I did not get a shower until very late Friday/early Saturday and the only reason I got one then is because I broke out into a rash.
And we didn't really get freebies.
I loved my doctor but I only saw her once when I was in the hospital. She was teaching in Vancouver when my DS was born.
ETA: I was not checked often which was nice. All of my doctors were great. Many of the nurses were fantastic. I just felt like my experience could have been better and I will likely deliver at Meridian Park next time.
