My son seems to have a dent in his chest and it gets deeper everytime he inhales or hiccups. You could pretty much hold liquid in it when he inhales. Is this a cause for concern or just a newborn thing?

Re: Does your baby have a dent in their chest?
Yes he does. I believe it's known as a barrel chest.
My DS was born with respritory distress caused by TTN and a pneumomediumsteinum (Spelling???).
However, some babies/kids/adults are just born with it and it's totally fine.
I also have this condition and it has a really fancy name that I couldn't even begin to spell here. If your pedi doesn't mention it next time you go, I'd mention it for sure.
Usually it is nothing and in my life it's been more cosmetic than anything but depending on depth it can affect your heart.... I was monitored closely as a child with this and a heart murmur and even occasionally as an adult. It is probably not a big deal, but for sure worth mentioning and asking your pedi about. There are varying degrees. Good luck!
