Books instead of cards for a baby shower

I have a friend that requested books with a message written inside instead of cards for her baby shower. I think this is a great idea but I'm worried I will get her the same book as someone else. If you did this or attended a shower where this was done, any idea on how to write the message in the book and yet have the book be returnable? So far all I can think of is a post-it note.

I had 3 showers that did this and only received one duplicate. (It was my mom!!) I just put that one in the diaper bag and it ended up getting ruined so I threw it away eventually.

I wouldn't worry about it and just get a unique book!!!

I did this for a baby shower last year. No duplicates were given. Some people still got cards and wrote in the book at the end of the shower.

I actually got several dups, but most people wrote the message on a piece of paper in the book, and the ones that didnt, well, I have 1 goodnight moon here, 1 at my moms and 1 spare! lol

i love this idea so much!! I wouldn't worry too much about duplicates...and if you are gifting to someone else...maybe stay away from the new classics (ie, goodnight moon, where the wild things are, are you my mommy, etc)

Our hosts did this for my shower and we loved it! We only got one duplicate and we keep it at my parents for when we visit.
