Babies: 9 - 12 Months

does anyone have the Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair?

Do you like it?  Is it worth the expensive price tag?

My DH is NAGGING the heck out of me about not getting a "traditional" high chair because they're ugly and going to be an eye sore in our home.  I personally don't care, but he's being a huge PITA about it.

Do you have another suggestion for a good and "fashionable" high chair? TIA!

  • I'm just around to ask a question, but NDWife just posted something about hers on 3-6

  • i'm famous! Wink

I really really do love it. I'm very happy we have it and am tempted to say that I would have spent my own money on it - ours was a gift.

Our house, though, is basically one big room - kitchen, dining, living. It was somewhat important to me to reduce the baby clutter overall because no matter where you are, you see it. If we had a separate kitchen with a table, I'm not sure I would have cared.

Keep in mind, too, that you can use the tripp trapp WELL into childhood and even beyond. Adults can sit in it, though you'd probably need slim hips. I picture it as a desk chair for LO down the road.

  • I LOVE my tripp trapp. I do not regret buying it for a second. First of all it looks nice...DD can sit at the table with us...it will last for YEARS (my grandma bought one for her grandchildren 25 years ago and still has it!). I can go on and on. Its a great chair and I am so happy with it!
  • oh...as a sidenote...the Svan is also a similar chair (but it has a tray). My friend just started selling them in her online store. If you enter "bump" at checkout you can get 10% off - plus free shipping and no tax.

  • I love mine! It took getting used to at first because you can't face our LO while you feed them... you are kinda feeding them from the side since they are sitting up at the table. After a few weeks, DD was fine with it and it isn't an issue at all. Get a good placemat though b/c your table can get messy :) I also find myself cleaning the cushions a lot and wiping down the foot rest, but I'm assuming it's no more than anyone else with a traditional high chair would be cleaning theirs.

Oh, and make sure you get the baby rail- it is a MUST. Looks-wise, it blends right into our decor and is not obtrusive at all. It's pricey, but well worth the investment so far. GL!

  • Do you think it's tall enough to sit at a kitchen counter?  Or will it only go up to a table?

Thanks for the awesome replies... you are making me want one!

oh yeah...I didn't even get the cushion! can't imagine how messy that would be!
  • It would only reach a table height.

Annnnd, so, the accessories you would need are the cushion, the bar, anything else?  This is getting expensive!  Whew!

you definitely need the infant insert/bar....but honestly...I would not get the cushion...DD is fine in the chair without it and that thing would get SOOOO messy!

That's all I can think of. I think you can buy some of this stuff as a "bundle" on amazon.com for cheaper than buying it all seperately from BRU or BuyBuyBaby or wherever. We're going to get another one for #2 once he's ready for it, and that's the way we plan on buying it since we got the chair and accessories as gifts when we were expecting DD.

Hmm.. I guess I always figured it would be too uncomfortable for DD without it. I usually throw it in the wash once a week since it doesn't get too bad, but I might try without it to see if we need another one for #2 :)

  • Do you guys think that the baby set is REALLY necessary>?  It's an additional $80!!!

I know buy buy baby sells them but I don't know if you have them in your area. BRU might sell them. not sure. a lot of boutiques sell them...check out their website I am sure there is someplace in your area that sells them.
  • I was going to get one, but then decided I wanted a tray.  We just got the Anka highchair for Christmas.  It is wood, can be used with or without the tray and converts to a toddler/booster seat.  It is also less $ than the Tripp Trapp.  We haven't used it yet b/c DS won't start eating solids for another month and a half.  My husband really liked the chair when he was putting it together.
