Aquaphor for really dry skin?

DD has terrible dry skin now that the weather has turned cold and I'm looking for something that may help her. Has anyone ever used Aquaphor on their DC? Or any other suggestions? She stays hydrated, drinks plenty of fluids during the day. Her skin is just so dry and red. I have to let her go without a diaper most of the time, too because her butt is so red and cracking from dryness and the diaper makes it worse. Other than her scratching at it (I assume it itches) all day, she doesn't seem really bothered by it, but I want to make it better. Regular baby lotion only works for a few minutes before it drys back up again. I get super dry patches, too, during the winter, and I was so hoping she wouldn't take after me. Looks like she did. Any ideas how to help her out?

  • yes and I also use it on myself.  It is the only thing that helps heal.

  • Aveeno works for my son's dry skin.

  • yes, I have been putting it on DS because of super dry skin on his forhead

You should run a vaporizor/humidifier at night too

  • we've used aquaphor on DS since he was a baby--he has patches of eczema, and it helps (helps with chapped cheeks too).

  • We use aquaphor for dry skin all the time. I put it on diaper rashs too, to keep the moisture out.

  • We use it on both girls--DD1 has really dry lips right now so we also use it there.

It is GREAT stuff for dry skin.  DH and I started using it after we started buying it for the girls.

  • DD gets really dry patches on her legs.  We use the Aveeno, then aquaphor every night.  When it gets really bad the dr told us to use 1% hydrocortisone (sp?) ointment (NOT cream), and that helps a lot.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! I'm headed out to the store, so I will pick some up. Smile
  • Yes, Aquaphor is wonderful.  I put it on DS' face before going out in the cold to help protect his cheeks.  It also works on diaper rash.  Cetaphil is a good "everyday" moisturizer, but if it's already chapped I'd use Aquaphor first.

  • When DS has flares of eczema, we keep him lubed up with aquaphor- basically applying it at every diaper change.  He stays greasy, but his skin is much happier!  When the spots are red and irritated, I actually also use 1% hydrocortisone cream first, then the aquaphor.  (This is all per my pedi's recs, btw.)

  • I slather it on DD's hands, elbows, knees, and face after every bath.  I also apply it to her cheeks, nose, lips, and hands before going out in the cold.
