we have done this a few times--mostly with holiday/family visits so we could stay later than 6:30pm. we brought the pack n play and put DS to bed, then when we were ready to leave we would try to sneak him into the carseat and take him home. each time he woke up but fell asleep again in the car, woke up when we got home, and fell back to sleep in his crib (he still never STTN so he woke up at his usual feedings after that too).
so basically we were successful--but i still feel guilty doing this! like it's not fair to interrupt his sleep....
do you do this?
Re: do you put LO to bed at other peoples houses to stay later?
I have not... but I know friends who do. Sometimes I wish we could do this..
but if his schedule is thrown off.. he'll wake up all night!
Well, this was a very sore subject for us on xmas eve. dd usually goes to bed around 6:30-7pm and she sttn. I'm not adverse to having her stay up later but I usually don't like to push my luck. Well on xmas eve we left around 8:45pm and my sil suggested I just put her in a pack n play but I knew she would wake up when we left and then wake up again when we got home so we left at 8:45pm. I just felt bad to do that just so we could stay another hour. I know she'll be fine but I just feel bad.
yeah, DS doesn't STTN anyway...so we're used to him up all night unfortunately. but i wonder if it's also because we try to do flexible things like this that he never will! (DH wants DS to be flexible and learn to sleep anywhere...we debate it all the time!) i'd say 85% of the time we have him home in bed on a regular routine and he STILL doesn't sleep well so i am not sure....
frozen transfer a success! boy #2 via VBAC
I did on Christmas Eve - we were at my mom's house and she has a PNP set up in the basement. He slept great! I did feel bad for waking him up to transfer to the carseat, then from carseat to crib once we were home. But he took a bottle and passed right back out.
I don't do that normally though. If we're just out somewhere not important (or not a holiday). We just leave once he gets tired or if it's getting close to bed time. It's soo much easier for me to put him down if we're home on time.
DD started STTN about two weeks ago. Since then we have done this about 3 times. Each time when we get home we give her a bottle and she'll sleep, be a little off the next day but gets right back on schedule.
I agree!
This is what we do. Unless DS really has a complete meltdown, which has only happened once, he sleeps in his PNP. A couple times he woke up, but was in a great mood so we just brought him down to be with everyone. Normally if he is up a little later, he sleeps in later. His schedule is a little off the next day, but will go to bed normal time and be back on schedule the following day.
ditto! I refuse to do it more than 2 nights a week, usually it ends up being Friday and/or Sunday night.
This is us. We would go crazy if we had to go home early and miss all the fun, all the time. He does great going from the car set back to his crib. If it's been four hours since I fed him last, I'll usually treat him with another bottle before putting him down back down when we get home.
We do it if we are out. It usually ends up being at our families houses, but we have done it with friends too. He wakes up for the transfer to the car and when we arrive home, but then he sleeps through the night.
