confession time

what was your lowest parenting point / most desperate act of survival this holiday season?

mine was buying "the best of Elmo" on my iphone while in the middle of BFE Louisiana. I don't think Wilco & Radiohead will ever forgive me for making them share harddrive space with Elmo.

But it worked and has been a lifesaver!

Re: confession time

  • DD ate a cookie for breakfast...more than once.  She's been sick and her pedi basically said if we can get her to eat anything then we're doing well.

  • if best of elmo is your lowest parenting point, you're doing pretty well.

i would say mine was generally the amount of time T spent watching tv. at first he was sick (102 fever for 4 days) so the couch was his home. then, he was off from school all last week and basically every time i needed to get something done, in front of the tv he would go. frankly, it's the only way to keep him quiet enough to allow mathis his naps. but generally it was a LOT more tv than i would normally allow

  • The amount fo stay at home/TV time...the m/s and exhaustion are kicking my ass, and Marisa's paying for it. =(
  • DS doesn't adjust well at first to the change in routine being home with me for the holidays. (I teach, so I was off for 2 weeks). Until the last few days of the break he wasn't eating well, not napping, constant tantrums, etc. Christmas day he only ate the following:

Syrup (licked off his waffles), a cupcake, 1-2 bites of  brisket and a Starburst candy.

He had more than one day with a similarly poor diet. I was trying to relax and enjoy my time off and at times just let him do what he wanted in order to avoid a meltdown. Hopefully we'll get back on track this week.

  • Our flight out to frozen tundra was a disaster.  We were delayed 3 hours so we spent 5 hours in the airport, then the 4 hour flight, then got stranded in Chicago due to icy roads.  Orion did not nap all day and with about a half hour left in the flight had a massive meltdown.  The meltdown continued with screaming through the airport.  Everyone stared.  It was bad.  So on the flight home we brought the pacifier out and let him have it on the plane.  We set up a nice spot with his pillow and pacifier and he slept and we avoided the meltdown.

C was sick the entire trip so we spent every night holding her in bed.  I thought it would start a bad habit but so far she's been in her crib every night since we've been home.

  • I caved and let DS watch Thomas the Train on tv...twice.  Hopefully, I can re-implement the no tv policy for 2010.

  • ummm... my kid is a fabulous sleeper- i'm talking 10-12 hours, Soooo, i had no problem with him staying up late with us so that he'd sleep late, too! I'm talking 10-11pm bedtimes and waking up at 9-10 am!!! =) I'd get up before him and get some stuff done around the house. It was all fun and games until last night when he wouldn't go to bed before 10 and he just might give the babysitter he*l today...

ummm... and according to PP i'm a horrible mom every day. I let Michael watch tv every night. like 1-2 cartoons on sprout. and DH keeps the tv on all day. period. so when I'm home, I turn the cartoons on, but DS doesn't sit and watch them all day, he plays. I'd just rather him have something like sprout or Nick Jr. on than the Military channel or COPS.

  • My kid's teeth are going to fall out. I bought a bag of dum dums during a major meltdown in HEB the other day, and ever since then I give him one when we are in stores...LOL. This tired preggo mama has no patience lately :-).
  • F banged the front of her head on the bathtub and two minutes later banged the back of her head on the other side.  She is so slippery and wiggly in there.  I cried for 20 minutes last night because I felt like the worst mother.  She cried too =(

  • Shoot, I let my kid stay up late, watch a little too much TV and eat less than healthy food almost the whole holiday. Dh being home, and her not in school just messes everything up for me. I am so eager to get back in the normal routine.

ohhh.. totally sucks! I have noticed that when DS falls or hurts himself it's never JUST once... it's always multiple times. =(

And the crying because they're hurt doesn't get easier. My son was constipated for the first time in almost 2 1/2 years the other day. he just wanted to be held and kept holding his butt telling me it hurt... he was super whiney. I almost cried - then when he finally could poop, it apparently hurt then too so he did cry, but after we cleaned it up, it was like instant relief... i cried after the fact because I realized how much pain he was in... sigh.

    Ditto.

My kids stayed up WAY past their bedtime, sleept a lot, ate like crap and watched A LOT of TV.  All in all it was a lot of fun.  They had a great time and so did we.

  • I try to avoid leaving the house when I have both kiddos.  School has been closed so we have been spending a lot of time at home.  We did venture to the store.  I bribed Luca with M & M's to stay in his seat...  I bribed Lila with animal cookies to keep quiet.  There was a trail of red slobber and crumbs down every lane at the grocery store....  I pretended not to notice..

This description of O's flight meltdown sent shivers down my spine!

  • I made my husband sleep on the couch so Z could sleep in bed with me. She would NOT sleep in the pack'n' play to save her life and I was really tired of trying to entertain her at 4 a.m. so she wouldn't wake up the whole house.
  • I'd definitely say too much tv!  He has gotten the point that if I don't turn the tv on in the mornings HE WILL!

We try not to give ds much junk food but he definitely had some Christmas cookies in the past 2 weeks and my dh was giving him cinnamon bread for breakfast several mornings at one point (I think because we ran out of bananas).  Let's see, we gave him some BK french fries today and I let him have a sip of my Dr. Pepper.

I'm sooooo ready for life to get back to normal!    MDO doesn't start back up until Thursday.
