every time i use anything other than swipers, LO seems to get diaper rash. we just had a killer rash when i took her in for her 2 week and the pedi said not to use wipes for a while (i was using "sensitive skin" pampers ones temporarily). so i didn't. the rash cleared up, and then i started using the swipers again. all good. then i ran out and had to use another kind for a few diaper changes. at her last diaper change-rash. again. i give up. i guess i'll be getting out the washcloth and the bath spongey thing every time i have to change her. too bad every time she feels the water, she pees........i thought diaper changes were supposed to be the easy part...... Huh?

i agree - we used disposable wipes on a recent trip and DD got a horrible rash. we use cloth wipes at home and like them so much more... if you're using cloth diapers, you should consider getting cloth wipes too - i just use a spray bottle to wet the wipes each time

There are chemicals in wipes. Get a wipe that is eco-friendly or you can make your own wipes!

i've been using wash cloths that i keep separate from her other ones. they seem to be the way to go. are actual cloth wipes any different than wash cloths?

Look into some bamboo cloth wipes, they are really soft for babies skin. Any cloth diapering site will have them. Also, the "prince lionheart" brand sells bamboo cloth wipes in boxes of 12 for around $12. I just bought some of those to use for bath time.

You can buy pre made solution, or find one to make yourself. The EFF ladies could help you out with that.

If the Swipers work, why not just stick with them? I've used Pampers Sensitive, and Huggies, and some crap brand that came in a gift basket from my boss on DD, and I prefer the pampers, so I stocked up (they were on sale over boxing week, and I had $1 off coupons, so yay for getting 3 big boxes for $27 that are normally $16/box!!) I think the crappy gift basket ones gave her a rash, and the huggies ones are just pissing me off (we bought the big box of "refills" and we use a wipe warmer to pull them out of - that's not plugged in - but the wipes just come in big resealable bags, and for some reason this annoys me...), so we stick with what we like.

I put on diaper cream just about every other changing and its helped keep even the smallest sign of diaper rash at bay. I put it anyplace I see a little redness and by the next change all the redness is gone.

Our hospital and pedi said no wipes, no cream, no lotion, no anything for the first month, because that's when skin is developing more and you can actually give your child sensitivities. I have very sensitive skin, and she did when she was born. For the first month we used Viva paper towels and water, and she doesn't have any skin sensitivities now. We use the Pampers Sensitive and she's fine with them, has never had a rash.

Its weird how some people say one then the other, and no matter what babies normally turn out pretty okay. In the NICU they were using wipes and tones of cream.
