We finally told our parents!
DH's family is so excited, but I can tell it's going to get hard to keep my mouth shut. DH's grandma has already told me that I'm killing my baby by taking Zofran and unisom (both of which are Dr. directed) and that my baby will die from SIDS because we don't plan on using a bassinet or cradle, but going straight to the crib. MIL has also called DH to see if I feel okay 3 times today. DH did tell his mom that if something was wrong, we would let her know, and we don't need a daily check in.
DH's dad is excited, I guess. He never seems to get excited about anything.
My dad and step-mom are excited, since this is the first grandchild. My dad told me welcome to the world of unsolicited advice.
I still have to tell my mom, and I may call her this weekend to tell her. I feel horrible, but after the things that were said about my engagement and wedding, I don't want to share happy news with her because I don't want her trying to ruin my happiness. She's already made comments about how she will never get to see her grandkids since we live so far away.
Wish me luck with telling my mom.
Re: Told (most of) the parents last night/today
how exciting! before you know it, you'll be having a baby!!
I"m sorry your DH's Grandma said that crap... ugh! and good luck with your mom.
She is really sweet, she just has a tendency to (a) believe anything anyone tells her or that she hears on tv and (b) not know when to shut up. I've learned to tune out 95% of what she says.
That's so exciting that you are telling people! I can't believe DH's gmom says that stuff! Some people dont have a filter.
Good luck telling your mom!
Good luck telling your mom!! Don't let what other people say affect you, hard to do, I know, however this is a very exciting and happy time in your life and no one should ruin it for you. Your dad is exactly right. Just try to let some stuff roll off your shoulders. I've started ignoring people's comments and unsolicited advice.
Good luck w/ your mom. You will get all kinds of great unwanted advice from now on.
I did find it funny that grandma said that though considering that we started the crib on day one!
