arrangements for dc#1 when in labor with dc#2??

we are trying to figure out logistics of how to handle our son when i go into labor knowing it may depend on the circumstance of the labor- but we want to be prepared....

also- while you were in the hospital, what were the arrangements for your first child....as well as when you came home!

when did you have family stay with you or did you?

would love some TIPS from moms on HOW TO MANAGE your first child when you go into labor with your second and what arrangements you made to make it go smoothly!

thanks-

  • We moved my Mom in with us. I also had a planned c-section. I wanted C there to bring her Sister home with us.
  • Gosh, we have family around, but they are useless (in the babysitting dept anyway).  My husband went home to watch her at night and she hung out with us in the hospital room during the day.  She slept through my labor and delivery (early morning) while my grandmother was in the house with her.
  • my older daughter went to my sister's house and stayed the first night there til 11am or so and then my DH picked her up and stayed home with her the rest of the day/night until dinner time on the third day that 3rd night she again spent at my sisters and DH picked her up and stayed with her until me and Jilly were ready to come home....I spent 75% of my stay alone with the baby so he could be with DD 1...we never had any family stay with us or help out...My mom would visit for an hour or so every other day but didn't help with anything...
  • We're planning on dropping her off at daycare, so to L&D, then my mom will pick her up and then bring her to our house and spend the night.  They'll then come to the hospital the next day to meet baby.  I know I'll be induced so it makes planning a whole lot easier.  We have a lot of family nearby so that makes it easier as well.
  • I have a trusted neighbor lady on call incase I have to go to hospital suddenly, but my mom/family are about 15 minutes away, so they will come and help as quickly as they can.  If it's an okay time for him to leave, I want DH to go help put dd to bed at night, so she's not too shocked by the change right away.
  • My mom lives about 5 minutes away, so we dropped DS #1 off a her house, and IL's came and picked him up--they live about 1.5 hours away. Mom was in delivery room when DS #2 was born. I'm a little wary of what is going to happen this time when DS #3 is born. I'm hoping that my mom will be okay with NOT being in the room this time and will watch both of my DSs for us while I'm in labor. We'll see..
