Being induced tomorrow...any advice?

I'm now 15 days past my original due date, and going in for an induction tomorrow am.

We've cleaned the house top to bottom, done all the laundry. Bags are packed, carseat installed.

Now I'm getting anxious and fidgety... and wondering what I am forgetting to do, and what to expect tomorrow.

Re: Being induced tomorrow...any advice?

  • Just go in open minded and understanding that everything could be what you want but also nothing could be what you want. As long as you are flexible but know what you hope to experience, you will be good. Enjoy the experience because it may seem like forever but it really goes by fast. GL!

  • Try to relax and take things as they come.  I went in for an induction 2 weeks late and it was 3 more days, lots of induction drugs, and a c-section before I got to meet my daughter.  Hopefully, your induction will be much smoother.  Good Luck!

  • Get as much sleep as possible (it will be a while before you get to do it again) and spend some time with your DH.  It will be a while before you can spend time with him without worrying about your LO breathing, eating enough, etc.  Enjoy your last night.  Don't get me wrong having a LO is amazing, but you worry so much more once they get here.

Also, when you go in be open to everything.  I know alot of people who went in with a birth plan, but when labor starts progressing everything they had planned went out the window.  Good luck!

  • Yes, get plenty of sleep, because it may be a long day for you tomorrow. I was induced with pitocin 10 days past my due date. My midwife had told me that it was going to be a long slow process, but I ended up having a very quick labor. I was in labor for 9 hours before DD was born. I was able to get through it without pain meds too. I would just keep thinking positive thoughts and know that there is an end in sight and you will be holding your beautiful LO soon! Good luck!
  • Are you allowed to eat before you go in? If so, eat a good meal!

    Good luck!

  • Just TRY to relax.. most people are saying to sleep.. but you're probably not going to be able to since you're so anxious!  I know that I couldn't if I were you...My water broke at 2am, and went to hospital by 3:30am and was in triage until 7am..I TRIED to sleep as I was hooked up to monitors, but really couldn't.. BRING AN EYEMASK and IPOD with you.  It did help to try to relax with all the noise and lights in the hospital.  I was given pitocin by 8am that day, 9am the epi and my baby was born at 2:56pm that day.

Good luck and really.. be open and flexible to what may or may not happen.  Nothing went as planned for me...and it got a bit scary at the end, (my baby was stunned by the birth and had a "slow start") but all is well now... she's thriving and I'm still healing.  You'll get through it and soon be home with your LO.

  • Yes, get lots of sleep while you can! I was induced and was in labor for 29 hours then I had to have an emergency c section. It was well worth it to see and finally hold my daughter, Ava! Good luck and best wishes!
  • Don't expect it to be quick. My induction took a week and I definitely didn't expect that!
  • Easier said than done, but get some rest! And I know you're 100% over being pregnant, but enjoy these last moments that you feel LO moving around inside. You definitely miss that feeling.?

    GL!

    ?

PS- I was induced both times and everything was fine! So don't worry! There are positive induction stories, too!?

  • Eyemask and earplugs to snooze when you can even if its loud or bright.
I went in for induction 6am Thursday and DD wasn't born until 1030pm Saturday. She came out vaginally soi don't worry yet about a long induction meaning automatic c-section. Be open minded and don't expect baby tomorrow....it might take 2-3 days. The nurses are there to help you, they know what they're doing...listen to their advice. GL
