Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Anyone else's babies hate being swaddled?

DD put up with it the first few days of her life... there after, she would scream like crazy. I try swaddling her again about once a week, just to see if she'll let me- I think she's sleep better on her own in a swaddle for naps and such, but I can't get her soothed and calmed down in one, b/c she's fighting to get her hands and legs free! Should I just give up, and accept that she's not the swaddling type?

  • We swaddle arms out.

  • DD will flip out but once I have her swaddled I can start to rock her and she'll calm right down.  She doesn't "hate" it though, so it's a bit different.  She just tends to fight it sometimes.

Some babies just don't like being swaddled!

  • Ryan loves to be swaddled, but his arms HAVE to be out. He can break free of anything and he loves to wave his arms around.

  • Mine tolerates it, but once his arms break free he is wide awake and unhappy...so I tried the escape proof swaddle last night- same concept as the Miracle Blanket..here is my post and a link to how to do it..GL!

  • She likes to be wrapped loosely in a blanket when napping in her swing, otherwise no swaddle.
  • My little guy HATED it until this past week.  I didn't do anything differently... he just one day decided that he liked it.  *shrug*

This is what we do, but after watching the no-escape swaddle video the pp mentioned, I'm trying that tonight!

  • Mine LOVED it for about 5 days, then we switched to arms-out, which lasted for another week or so.  Now - nothing.  Sometimes I'll wrap her loosley after her bath just to maintain some "heat" and she'll tolerate that, but thats about it.

  • I swaddle mine arms out also.  If I swaddle her with her arms wrapped up, she screams bloody murder.  Having her hands to her face is comforting to her.
  • My DS hates to be swaddled, so we always did arms out. But he would constantly startle himself awake with his hands. I saw a post on here about a woombie one time, did some research, and decided to try it. It looks like a baby straight jacket, but DS doesn't mind it. It keeps his arms covered, but he is still able to move them within the woombie. He's never broken free, and has been sleeping great with it.  www.thewoombie.com  But I actually bought mine on ebay for the same price but with free shipping.

  • Try a halo sleep sack. It keeps them warm, but does not restrict them. DD hated to be swaddled. I think that we were only able to swaddle her for a week or two max and then switched to the sleep sacks and they are wonderful!!!!!
