Honestly, there really isn't a best pacifier. It is all about which one your child prefers. You may have to try a few to find one that works for you. Think of it like bottles, babies tend to have a preference and you just find what works for the little one.
The best pacifier is the one your baby likes the most! If you're planning on BFing, a lot of people like the Soothies (in which case, get a wubbanub - they have a stuffed animal that the baby can hold onto, and sometimes can even shove it back in their own mouths). Also, a lot of people like the Nuks.
The best pacifier for my LO is my boobs. Seriously.
But the only pacifier that I can even get her to take is the one we got from the hospital which is a NUK. She wouldn't take any other kind (we tried several), and she still really isn't a fan of that. However, I can't spend my whole entire day being a pacifier for her.
For the first month and a half we used Soothies, but they were always falling out and are so big I tried the MAM pacis and she loves them. They stay in better and are cuter too.
DD likes nuks and nuks only. this is the ONLY thing she is picky about. She will take ANY bottle and continue to BF w/ no problems or preference. she used to like her soothie too but even that gets spit out now.

That being said, I like the avent pacifiers.
Us too. We've tried others, but they were a no-go.
