Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I have been drinking at night just to cope

with the fear that my baby will die of SIDS in the middle of the night.

It may be crazy but the only time I have not been anxious and scared and imagining my baby dying is when I'm a bit buzzed. I ordered the angelcare monitor a week ago and it's still not here...and every night I go without it is harder than the last.

anyone know if UPS delivers on sundays?

  • I'm pretty sure UPS doesn't deliver on Sundays, but it sounds like you might want to mention this to your OB.    It's normal to worry, but when it becomes prohibitive it's worth talking about and working through.

Deep breaths Mama.    He's gonna be just fine.

  • I'm really concerned for you. I think you should talk to your doctor about this. Some amount of worry is perfectly normal, and an even higher level of worry is ok for new mommies who feel overwhelmed, but your level of worry seems to be unhealthy for both you and your adorable boy. That said, I love my Angelcare monitor and found that it helps me sleep really well at night - hopefully it gets delivered to you soon!

  • ITA with the previous posters - I worried like this at first, but at six weeks it seems like you're dealing with an unusual amount of anxiety. All you can do for SIDS is just take as many precautions as possible - for me personally I feel much, much better with having her in the room with us - she sleeps in her PNP next to our bed and I wake up whenever she makes any noises.

  • I hope you get your angelcare monitor soon to help ease some of your stress and anxiety. I also hope that you will call your OB on Monday to talk to them about this. It seems like you might just need to talk to someone about your fears or maybe get some other help. It's totally normal to be nervous and scared but it seems like you might be at that point where help from a Dr would benefit you. (((Hugs))) Mommy and breathe.
  • ups doesnt deliver on sun.

i was like that for the first 3-4 wks and barely closed my eyes to sleep but slowly i have started to get over it and realize that its not as likely as i used to imagine. it was seriously all i thought about.

ETA - I should add that I have a bit of anxiety anyway when it comes to things like this. I agree that you should talk to your Dr. Anxiety is a b!tch and having a child has brought a lot more on me.

  • Anytime you self medicate to help with anxiety, it's an issue. I'd encourage you to talk to your doc about how you're feeling--you definitely want to work on this before it gets worse (and post partum anxiety is extremely common and treatable!)

  • Did you purchase a sleep positioner?  It helps me have more peace of mind.  They are like $10 at target.
