Sorry for the multiple posts today. I am reading through my Baby Bargains book and trying to start picking out some of our gear. I am a bit confused about strollers though. We have decided for our carseat, that we will be getting an infant car seat. Does that mean we should buy a stroller base that fits it AND a lightweight stroller? What do you all think about the travel systems? I have heard not great things about the quality of the strollers that come with these systems. Are there any good quality ones?
Re: Please help me with strollers!
My recommendation is get a Snap & Go and then whatever stroller you want for down the road.
We have the Chicco Cortina travel system, but I've barely used the stroller because we have a Snap & Go as well. It's SO much lighter and compact than the Chicco. We've never once used the carseat with the Chicco stroller. I won't be bothering with the whole travel system next time. My current plan is that as soon as she's out of the infant carseat I'm going to sell the whole travel system and bases and buy a jogging stroller and a nice umbrella stroller.

I know I'm going to want to run later...so we are just buying a BOB with car seat adapter for long term use...and a super cheap umbrella stroller for a small, light-weight option (under $20).
I love stroller shopping! I'm the type that only wants to own one stroller so that limited my options greatly. When we just had Kaylin, the Chicco Trevi worked great. Started as a travel system and then we used it solo for a while. Now that we are expecting our 2nd, we've moved on to the P&T. I love, love, love it! We are planning to get a carseat adaptor for it before baby comes.
Are you looking to only have one stroller that meets all of your needs or do you prefer to have a couple for different purposes?
This is my recommendation too. I have a stroller that I don't really like, and I think if I had just gotten a snap and go, then when I went to get a real stroller I would have known better what to look for for my needs.
I have a stroller that is a travel system, and the stroller is so big and bulky, it takes up the whole trunk space of my car. So, we got a Maclaren Triumph umbrella stroller (comes with the hinge covers). I couldn't do the cheapy umbrella, because Max is so big that he is almost at the weight limit. He is only 9 months old, and will be in a stroller for at least a year and a half.
The BOB strollers only fit certain infant seats, but I don't know which one. Although it is awesome to have a jogging stroller, they are a pain to haul around. You may want to look into a light weight stroller that has a higher weight limit.

dont' waste your money on the super cheap umbrella strollers - they're ok for the airport, but they suck for pretty much anything else - especially if you're tall at all - even I have to almost stoop for ours and I'm only 5'5". Plus you can't use an umbrella stroller til they can sit on their own, so wait 4 or 5 months and see what you like then. Definitely don't buy that before the baby comes.
ditto.
I've heard good things about the snap n' go route too.
Hoping we aren't making a mistake investing in the jogging stroller now...since this is our first go round...but I didn't like the feel of the travel system strollers at the store (felt so rickety), when we know we'll be using it off the beaten path. Some of my friends love the travel system route though...so it's all in how you plan to use it?
We knew which stroller we wanted first...so picked a car seat that was compatible with the adapter. Not sure if that's as convenient if you've already picked out the infant seat you want...but depends on which jogger you might like.
I would get the Baby Jogger City Select if this were our first baby. It holds the car seat and then you can use as a regular stroller.
I Love BOB. We bought it before DS was born, used the adaptar some of the time, but Snap N Go is ideal until they outgrow (or more likely, you can no longer pick up) the infant seat. We also bought a Quinny Zapp as a travel stroller and it's nice, but it was pricey and I don't love it the way I did before I actually used it. DH picked that one out before we were even TTC so it stays in his car. I rarely have issues with the BOB in stores becasue with an umbrella I have a purse or diaper bag and drink getting in the way more than footprint of the stroller.
REI should have 20% off BOBs soon.
funny thats what i have and i definitely wouldnt recommend it. i hate the basket thats so hard to get into annd i hate that it can't be steered one handed. i was looking forward to the toddler step on the back but its inaccessible if you have an infant in front which really chaps my ass since when else would you want that feature???
I have a chicco system, a lightweight jeep stroller and a baby trend jogger. The only one we have really really used is the Chicco. It snapped in and out of our cars and the stroller very easily. As soon as Cruz could sit up I took him out of the infant seat and just used the stroller because he could see so much better and hated his infant seat.
The Jeep travel stroller was a waste of money. I think I have used it twice. The problem is that I really like having the cup holders and tray in the big stroller so that Cruz could have snacks and sippys and have a place for my purse and shopping bags.
The babytrend jogger isn't good if you really like to run because it shimmys and you have to lock the wheel if your going fast. It was great to take to the park when cruz was younger but now he wants to go in his red wagon. It was way too big to get in the trunk of our volvo s40. (the chicco fits great)
Now at the age of 2 its pretty rare that I can get Cruz to stay in his stroller I think if we have another baby I will get the stroller that Cruz can sit in the back and get up if he wants.
The bob has "recomended" models of car seats that the adapter works with but honestly I know moms who use carseats not on the recomended list and have had no problems.
I have the BOB and a small umbrella stroller, but we aren't big stroller people. so it meets our needs. Our DS is 2 and if we go on walks now, he'll use his bike or walk with us and before he liked the ergo or a backpack carrier more than a stroller.
My suggestion is to think about what will or won't fit into your life and where you see yourself using a stroller. then find one that fits those needs.
I have the Snap-n-Go with a Chicco carseat. It is very convenient and easy to use.....HOWEVER, the car seat was expensive (a gift from work) and it's looking like we will grow out of it before he reaches a year old.
My advice is to find the jogger stroller you absolutely want (the city mini and BOB are both great) and see if it has a car seat adapter - and then go with that. Then you can use the car seat for the first 3-6 months but ALSO have the option to transition baby earlier in the stroller alone as needed.
Almost everyone grows out of their infant seat before 1. Usually in height. Even if you don't grow out of it, it gets too heavy to lift up anyway so most people change to a convertible before 1. It goes rear facing too.
