those who had c-section incision leaking...

i went to the ER the day after christmas because it was just SO much leaking. they said it looked fine, healing good, etc etc. the leaking has slowed, and most of the redness is gone, but i have bump-like areas that were there when i went to the ER, but they are very hard when i clean my incision, it feels like there are knots underneath. what is this? normal? anyone else with this feeling?

Re: those who had c-section incision leaking...

  • I have this. I don't know what it is but I was thinking it was in the internal absorbable stitches that they use to sew back the muscles together.

  • It could be the normal swollen areas or it could be a hematoma. Your OB should take a look at it especially if it was leaking. You can't always tell it's a hematoma just by looking at it. I had one and was discharged from the hospital with it. Ended up back there the next day because it caused so much pressure that simply walking up the stairs caused the incision to bust open, gushing blood everywhere.

Don't want to scare you just want you to know it's a possibility you just can't be too safe.

  • Oh my golly, I have those knots also! I've been so worried about them. OB said they might be internal injuries from where the doctors pulled me apart during the surgery, or it may be relocation of fatty tissue.

The knots are the only things that still hurt. The incision doesn't and has never really hurt. But those knots are horrible. They even tighten up sometimes. When will they go away!?

  • I'm wondering if this is what I have as well (the knots). When I lie in bed at night and lightly touch around the incision area, I feel almost golf-ball sized, solid bumps on either side.
  • I posted about this last night. My incision started leaking two days ago and hasn't yet tonight but I am still really worried. When I called L&D they said as long as it's not with puss, super red or swollen you're fine. When I go to LO 3 week appt I am going to ask to be seen.

I have also been putting peroxide on the small area that is leaking (L&D suggestion).
