1st Trimester

Anyone move while pregnant?

We had plans to move before finding out we were expecting #2 but the holidays always slow down home sales not to mention the economy we are in.  But DD got so much stuff for Christmas (even though I asked for SMALL stuff lololololl).  We were jammed in here before the holiday, breaking out all the baby stuff (bassinet, PnP, swing, etc) I feel like the walls are going to start closing in on us.

I'm wondering if anyone moved while pregnant and if so, would you have waited, tried to schedule it at a different time, etc.?

 Thanks,

Re: Anyone move while pregnant?

  • We are planning to move before baby #1.  We need more space.  I have several friends who have done this as well.  They have said that while it is stressful they are glad they did it.  Plenty of friends helped out and when it was all over they got to bring baby home to a new house and not worry about space/moving with a small child.

  • Our house is on the market so if all goes well, we will be moving with a toddler while I am pregnant... I know it'll be less than ideal but I'll just wrangle DS and probably go to my parents' or something.. DH will do the moving with friends/family.
  • We are going to be moving next month, but this is our first.  We're building our house and we did IVF, so we knew it was a good possibility I'd be pregnant while moving.  The only thing that drives me crazy is that I'm not going to be able to move the big stuff.  I'm very independent and usually really in shape, so it'll drive me crazy watching the movers and DH move everything while I stand around and carry little stuff and watch!  We'll have 5-6 months before the baby comes, so I think it's plenty of time.  I think even 3 months before is ok - any closer and I might not like it!
  • We moved in July when I was 34 ish weeks pregnant.  My husband and his brother did all the work, and I sat and folded/washed baby clothes in the new apartment and unpacked boxes.
  • We close on our new house January 27th, and will be moving throughout the month of Febuary and getting the house we are in now ready to rent out. I cannot tell you if I wish things were different, because we have not moved yet.
  • My husband is military so we have moved tons. We moved when I was 4 months pregnant with my first. It was rough but thankfully I wasn't feeling as sick then. And the military packs everything up and moves for you. I just had to go through the other stuff.  Good Luck!!

  • We are moving six hours away in April. I will be about six months pregnant. DH is changing jobs, and this will put us closer to both of our families. I am looking forward to it and I am glad I don't have to lift anything! Smile

  • Thanks for all the replies ladies.  I don't have a problem with it, I actually kind of like the thought of sitting back and letting DH take charge (I usually have to on EVERYTHING lol).

My cousin was telling me maybe we should wait. I think she is just upset we're moving a little further away from her and she's looking for excuses lolol

  • We are moving at the beginning of July. I will be very pregnant and have a 2 1/2 year old. :)

  • We tried to move while I was pregnant with DS at 32 weeks.  It was really stressful and I think it pushed me into pre-term labor with him.  Everyone reacts to stress differently, but my OB said that stress from moving is pretty high.  I do have friends that have done it though, and they were glad that they moved before the baby was born so just follow your gut on whether you want the stress now or later!  GL!
  • I will say better to do it now than AFTER the baby gets here.  We moved with a not-quite-one-year-old and it was a pain.  And it would have been WAY worse if we moved when he was a newborn (DS was colicky).  So I'd say do it now if that's an option.  GL!
  • Our lease is up in May, so we will be moving right before the third trimester.  Not looking forward to that, but we will need more room for the baby.
  • We moved during both of our first two pregnancies.

The first one wasn't a big one. We just moved to a downstairs apt., literally right below us. BUT I was 39w pg at the time and apart from all the super heavy stuff and furniture, it basically became my job to move everything downstairs while DH was at work. I don't know how many times I did those stairs, in August, in 100 degree weather, with no AC. Fun fun.

The second time, I was about 8 months pg with dd2. We moved from OH back to WI. This one was especially hard because I had to find a new dr. to take me that late, which didn't turn out to be a big deal. BUT, our student housing wasn't ready for us when we got back to WI, so DD and I basically house hopped for almost 4 weeks before we could move into our new home. Now THAT was terrible. What 8 month pregnant woman wants to sleep on futons for a month?

In the end, it all worked out fine. I wouldn't have changed anything, timing wise with the pregnancies.

    Good luck!

  • I did!  We moved from MN all the way to TX.  I guess I wouldn't have done it differently, I certainly would not want to move with a newborn and another child.  IMO that would be very difficult.  Good Luck!

  • I was 5 months pregnant when we moved. I think it was easier than trying to move with a newborn. And I was suffering through HG, on bedrest and not much help...so I guess I should really ask my husband if it was easier, LOL.
  • My DH is applying for grad school now and we will hear back in March/April.  We will probably be moving in June but we do not know where we will be.  I am not looking forward to this.  I will probably be useless as far as really helping and since we will be new to wherever we go, we won't have any friends to bribe with beer and pizza to help us move in.  Our parents may come, though.  I just really want everything that I can have ready to be ready for our baby.  I also don't want DH to have a ton of house stuff to do when his classes start and we have a newborn. I wish we had another option.
  • We just found out that our landlord is selling the house we live in so we will be moving in a few weeks. I am alittle stressed about it, but I will be glad when it's done and I agree it will be easier to move now than when the baby comes.
  • I hope your move goes well.  We're planning to move as soon as we find a house.  And I'm also looking forward to sitting back and letting DH direct the move.
  • We moved when I was 30 weeks last time.  It was fine.  I did all the packing and more than my share of the lifting.  It would have been harder if I'd had a toddler too, but better to move while pregnant than try to do it with a toddler and a newborn.
  • yes and it was no big deal.  we had lots of family to help and i "supervised" and told everyone where to put things and then i started to unpack.  I moved twice while being pregnant with both of my kids.  we needed MORE space.

  • We tried to move while pregnant, but ended up moving with an infant. We started looking to buy a house in Aug and in our area we thought we would be in one by september (DS was due in Oct), but it didn't work out and we moved in February.

I would have much rather moved 9 months pregnant! We started to live out of boxes in July so I wouldn't be so huge not to pack. A couple weeks before he came and we still didn't have a house I broke out some baby stuff. We used a PNP and a swing - there wasn't enough room for anything else. Moving and unpacking took FOREVER! It seemed like once I got a room set up and unpacked, I was packing up baby toys and clothes that he was no longer using.

    Move pregnant if you can!
